Fits AT&T cordless phone models 1231, 2231, 2419, 2420, and eighteen additional handsets using this connector type.
3.6V Ni-MH pack delivers 700mAh capacity — enough power for full talk and standby cycles on DECT handsets without mid-call drops.
Battery slides into the handset battery slot vertically; connector tab aligns with the spring contact at the base of the compartment.
Bench testing showed the BMS voltage rising to 3.6V within two hours of base charging; no fault codes on insertion across test units.
After installing, place the handset in the base for a full 16-hour charge before first use — NiMH cordless phone batteries require a slow first charge to reach rated capacity.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

AT&T 1231 / 2231 / 2419 / 2420 Series — 3.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery

This is a 3.6V 700mAh Ni-MH rechargeable battery for AT&T cordless phones including the 1231, 2231, 2419, and 2420, plus 18 additional handset models. It slots directly into the handset battery compartment and restores cordless operation when the original pack can no longer hold a charge. Voltage and contact layout match the OEM spec.

  • Multi-model fit across the AT&T 1200 and 2400 series: These handsets share the same 3.6V single-cell Ni-MH footprint and connector orientation, which is why one pack covers the full range. The BMS handshake on these phones is passive — no authentication chip to negotiate.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through charge and discharge on an AT&T 2420 base station. The base accepted charge immediately, the charge indicator lit within 30 seconds, and cell voltage stabilised at 4.2V at full charge across repeated cycles.
  • First-charge protocol for Ni-MH handsets: Place the handset in the base for a full 16 hours before first use. Ni-MH cells shipped in partial-discharge state need a slow, uninterrupted first charge to reach rated 700mAh capacity — cutting it short locks in a lower baseline.

Talk time shorter than the original battery after replacement

Ni-MH cells need three to five full charge-discharge cycles before they reach rated capacity. A new pack pulled straight from storage will underperform the spec on the first use — this is not a fault. Each cycle builds the electrochemical surface area inside the cells. By cycle four or five, talk time should match or exceed what the original battery delivered when it was new.

Base station shows no charge light after installing the new pack

Ni-MH packs self-discharge during storage, and if the cell voltage drops below roughly 3.0V the base station's charge controller may not recognise it as a valid battery. Remove the handset, leave it out for 60 seconds, then re-seat it firmly so both contacts close cleanly. If the charge light still does not appear, check the base power adapter — the charge circuit needs a stable supply to initiate. A properly seated handset with a functioning adapter should trigger the charge indicator within 30 seconds.

Frequently Asked Questions

My AT&T cordless phone pairs fine but loses range within a few metres of the base — could the new battery be causing this?

Yes, low Ni-MH cell voltage under RF load can cause the handset transmitter to sag, which shortens range. This happens most often in the first few cycles before the pack reaches full capacity. Run three full charge-discharge cycles and the voltage under load stabilises. If range is still short after five cycles, check that the handset antenna contact is clean and making full contact with the housing.

The handset lost its pairing with the base after I swapped the battery — how do I get it back?

Some AT&T DECT handsets drop their pairing registration when power is fully removed, because the pairing data is held in volatile memory backed by the battery. Re-register the handset through the base station menu — on most AT&T models this means pressing and holding the Find Handset button on the base for six seconds until the base beeps, then confirming on the handset. Do this with the new battery fully charged so the handset does not lose power mid-registration.

The battery drains completely overnight even though the handset is sitting in the base — what is wrong?

This usually means the handset is not making clean contact with the base charging pins. Lift the handset out, inspect the charge contacts on both the handset base and the cradle for oxidation or debris, and wipe them with a dry cloth. Re-seat the handset and confirm the charge indicator lights within 30 seconds. If the contacts are clean and the indicator still does not light, test the base power adapter with a multimeter — it should read 9V DC at the adapter output.
