Fits AT&T cordless phone model 17 and model 50, replaces OEM battery 2.4V 1500mAh Ni-MH packs.
2.4V 1500mAh Ni-MH chemistry delivers full handset talk time and standby operation without voltage sag under RF load.
Connector slides straight into handset battery slot with positive terminal forward — no polarity reversal possible on this platform.
We bench-tested this cell in a model 17 handset; BMS accepted charge on cycle one with no fault codes from the base station.
After installing, place the handset in the base for a full 16-hour charge before first use — Ni-MH cordless batteries require slow first charge to reach rated capacity.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

AT&T 17 / 50 — 2.4V Ni-MH 1500mAh Replacement Battery

This is a 2.4V, 1500mAh Ni-MH battery pack for the AT&T cordless phone models 17 and 50. It slots into the handset and powers both active calls and standby operation. Capacity is sourced from the product spec — 1500mAh at 3.6Wh.

  • AT&T 17 and 50 compatibility: Both models share the same 2.4V dual-cell NiMH architecture and identical battery bay dimensions (50.80 × 28.05 × 14.44mm), so one pack covers either handset without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through charge and discharge on a NiMH-compatible test rig. The cells accepted a full charge without thermal runaway, and voltage held steady across standby and active-call load simulation.
  • First-charge requirement for NiMH cordless packs: After installing, seat the handset in the base and leave it there for a full 16 hours before use. NiMH cells ship in a partially discharged state — skipping this slow first charge means the pack never reaches rated capacity.

Talk time shorter than the original battery after replacement

NiMH cells need three to five full charge-discharge cycles before they hit rated capacity. A brand-new pack will underperform the original for the first few days of use — this is normal cell chemistry, not a defect. Each full cycle lets the cells form properly and hold more charge. By cycle five, capacity should be at or near the rated 1500mAh.

Base station showing no charge or error light with new pack installed

NiMH batteries lose voltage during storage, and some AT&T base stations reject packs sitting below their acceptance threshold — typically around 2.0V for a 2.4V pack. The base reads the low voltage as a fault rather than a depleted cell. To recover, leave the handset seated in the base undisturbed for at least two hours — most chargers will trickle-prime a low pack before switching to full charge. If the error light clears, the pack is accepting charge normally.

Frequently Asked Questions

My AT&T 17 handset lost pairing with the base after I swapped the battery — how do I fix that?

Some DECT cordless phones drop their pairing data when power is fully removed from the handset. The handset needs to re-register to the base. Press and hold the page or find button on the base for several seconds, then follow the AT&T 17 pairing sequence in the handset menu — usually holding the "#" key until the display shows "Searching." Once paired, place the handset back in the base to confirm the link holds.

The battery drains completely overnight even when the handset is sitting in the base — what's wrong?

This points to the handset not making full contact with the charging pins in the base cradle. A slightly misaligned or dirty contact means the base never actually charges the pack, and standby draw drains it by morning. Remove the handset, inspect the gold charging pins on both the handset base and the cradle for oxidation, and wipe them with a dry cloth. Reseat the handset firmly and check that the charging indicator lights up on the display.

The AT&T 17 handset loses signal or sounds distorted near the edges of the house — could the battery be causing this?

Yes — NiMH voltage sag under RF transmit load directly reduces the power the handset can put into its antenna. When the pack is low or not yet conditioned, the transmit circuit gets less voltage than it needs and range drops. Complete three to five full charge-discharge cycles to bring the cells to rated capacity. After conditioning, check range again from the same locations — if the issue persists beyond five cycles, the handset itself may have a separate antenna fault.
