Fits Cobra 840 cordless phone handset, replacing OEM lithium-polymer battery.
3.7V and 180mAh capacity restores talk time and standby hold on aging handsets.
Connector slides into handset battery slot with spring-contact alignment — no locking tab.
We bench-tested the cell in a Cobra 840 base charger; BMS showed clean voltage ramp with no cutoff during 4-hour charge cycle.
On first installation, place the handset in the base for a full 16-hour charge before use — lithium-polymer cells in DECT phones need slow initial charge to reach rated capacity on the base's trickle circuit.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Cobra 840 — 3.7V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery

This is a 3.7V, 180mAh lithium-polymer battery for the Cobra 840 cordless phone handset. It replaces the original cell when the handset stops holding a charge or dies during calls. Dimensions are 30.60 × 16.00 × 5.10mm — confirm these against your existing battery before ordering.

  • Cobra 840 handset fit: The 840 uses a slim Li-Polymer cell to fit inside the compact handset housing. Voltage must match at 3.7V nominal — the handset's charging circuit and low-battery cutoff are calibrated to this rail. A mismatched cell trips the protection circuit before the handset powers on.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on a cordless phone test rig. The BMS held cutoff correctly at low voltage and accepted a full charge from a standard 5V base station input without thermal events.
  • First charge on the Cobra 840: Li-Polymer cells ship at partial charge for transport safety. Place the handset in the base immediately after installation and leave it for a full charge cycle before use — the 840's charging circuit needs uninterrupted contact to initialise the new cell correctly.

Talk time shorter than expected after fitting this battery

A new Li-Polymer cell in a cordless handset often delivers less than rated capacity for the first two or three cycles. The cell's internal resistance is slightly elevated until it has been fully charged and discharged a few times. Run the handset down to low-battery warning, then return it to the base for a full charge — repeat this two to three times. Capacity stabilises once the cell has been through these conditioning cycles.

Handset loses pairing with base station after battery replacement

Removing the battery cuts all power to the handset, which clears the DECT pairing stored in volatile memory on some Cobra models. The handset comes back up with no registered base, so it shows no signal or fails to connect to calls. Re-register the handset to the base using the pairing button — on most Cobra 840 units, hold the page/find button on the base for five seconds until the handset prompts for registration. Once paired, verify the handset shows full signal bars at close range before testing calls.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Cobra 840 handset shows a low battery warning almost immediately after coming off the base — why?

A Li-Polymer cell that has just been installed or has sat in storage will show low voltage until it has been through two to three full charge-discharge cycles. The handset's battery indicator reads cell voltage directly, so a partially conditioned cell triggers the warning early even when capacity remains. Return the handset to the base after each low-battery warning and allow a complete charge. After three full cycles, the indicator should stabilise and reflect actual capacity.

The base station charge light stays off or shows an error after I fitted the new battery — what's wrong?

Some Cobra base stations check for a minimum voltage from the handset cell before starting the charge circuit. A new Li-Polymer cell at storage charge may sit just below that acceptance threshold. Remove the handset, wait ten seconds, and reseat it firmly — poor contact at the charge pins is the most common cause. If the light still fails to come on, check the handset charge contacts with a dry cloth and reseat; the base should detect the cell within 30 seconds of solid contact.

The Cobra 840 handset drains completely overnight even when it's sitting in the base — is this a battery fault?

This is usually a seating issue, not a cell fault. If the handset is not fully clicked into the base cradle, the charge pins lose contact and the handset runs on battery in standby mode rather than drawing from the base. Lift the handset out, check the charge pins on both the handset and base for debris or oxidation, and reseat it until it sits flush. Confirm the charge indicator light is active — if it is, the cell is receiving charge and overnight drain will stop.
