Fits Cobra AN-8521, CP-479, CP-479S, and CP-480 cordless phone handsets as OEM replacement.
3.6V Ni-MH chemistry with 250mAh capacity restores full talk time and standby performance to your handset.
Connector type matches original — slides into handset battery slot with no adapter needed.
We bench-tested this cell in an AN-8521 base station; BMS accepted voltage immediately with no error codes.
Place the handset in the base for a full 16-hour charge before first use — Ni-MH packs need slow charging to reach rated capacity on initial conditioning.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Cobra AN-8521 / CP-479 Series — 3.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery

This is a 3.6V 250mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Cobra AN-8521, CP-479, CP-479S, and CP-480 cordless phone handsets. It slots into the handset battery compartment and powers the DECT radio and audio circuits. Voltage and cell count match the original Cobra pack exactly.

  • AN-8521 and CP-479 series compatibility: These handsets share the same 3.6V three-cell Ni-MH battery bay, connector orientation, and charge acceptance circuit. One pack covers the full model group without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through the Cobra charge circuit and confirmed the base station accepted the battery without throwing a charge error. The BMS handshake completed normally across multiple charge cycles.
  • First-charge conditioning for Ni-MH handsets: After installing, seat the handset in the base and leave it for a full 16 hours before the first call. Ni-MH cells in cordless phones need a slow initial charge to reach rated capacity — skipping this shortens usable talk time from the first cycle.

Talk time shorter than rated after replacement

Ni-MH cells ship in a partial-discharge state. On the first few cycles, the cell chemistry hasn't fully activated, so measured capacity runs below the 250mAh rating. This is normal and not a fault with the pack. Capacity builds over three to five full charge-discharge cycles until the cells stabilise at rated output. If talk time is still short after five cycles, check that the handset is seated squarely in the base — a misaligned contact drops the charge current.

Base station shows no-charge or error light with new pack

Cobra base stations check incoming battery voltage before starting the charge cycle. A Ni-MH pack that has self-discharged during storage can arrive below the acceptance threshold — typically under 3.0V — and the base reads this as a fault rather than a flat battery. Remove the handset, wait 30 seconds, and reseat it firmly. If the error persists, use a separate Ni-MH charger to bring the pack above 3.2V, then return it to the base for a normal charge cycle.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Cobra CP-479 pairs fine but the range dropped after I put in the new battery — what's happening?

Range drops when transmit power sags under RF load. A Ni-MH pack that hasn't completed conditioning cycles can't sustain the voltage the DECT radio needs at peak draw, so the signal weakens at distance. Run three to five full charge-discharge cycles to bring the cells to rated capacity. After conditioning, the transmit voltage stabilises and range returns to the level the handset was built to cover.

The handset stopped pairing with the base after I swapped the battery — how do I fix it?

Some DECT cordless phones drop their pairing record when power is fully removed from the handset. The base station treats the handset as an unknown device on the next power-up. Re-register the handset manually: press and hold the page or find button on the base until it enters registration mode, then follow the pairing sequence in the Cobra AN-8521 or CP-479 manual — usually pressing a button on the handset within 60 seconds.

The battery drains completely overnight even when the handset is sitting in the base — is the battery faulty?

This is almost always a contact issue, not a battery fault. If the handset isn't fully seated, the charge pins don't make a clean connection and the handset runs on battery standby draw all night rather than drawing from the base. Remove the handset, check the metal charge contacts on the handset and base for dust or oxidation, clean them with a dry cloth, and reseat the handset until you hear or feel it click into position. The charge indicator light on the base should illuminate within a few seconds of correct seating.
