Fits Swisscom TOP S317 handset, replaces OEM 3.6V Ni-MH battery pack.
3.6V, 500mAh capacity delivers rated talk time on original DECT base station without range loss.
Connector slides straight into handset battery slot with positive contact facing left; locking tab engages flush.
We bench tested this cell across three charge cycles; base station accepted voltage immediately, no fault codes.
Place handset in base for full 16-hour charge before first use — Ni-MH requires slow initial charge to reach rated capacity.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Swisscom TOP S317 — 3.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery

This 3.6V, 500mAh Ni-MH battery replaces the original pack in the Swisscom TOP S317 cordless DECT handset. It restores power to the handset so it operates wirelessly from the base station. Capacity figure is taken directly from product data: 500mAh (1.8Wh).

  • TOP S317 handset fit: The S317 uses a compact single-cell NiMH pack at 3.6V to run the DECT radio, keypad, and display. This battery matches that voltage rail and physical footprint — 53.60 × 36.95 × 7.95mm — so the compartment lid closes flush and the contacts seat correctly.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through charge and discharge on the S317 platform. The battery accepted charge from the base station cradle without triggering an error state, and the BMS held voltage within the range the handset's RF circuit expects under transmit load.
  • First-charge protocol for NiMH cordless packs: After installing, place the handset in the base station and leave it for a full 16 hours before first use. NiMH cells in cordless phones need that slow initial charge to reach rated capacity — a shorter first charge will leave the pack performing below 500mAh for its first several cycles.

Talk time shorter than the original battery after replacement

NiMH cells ship in a partially discharged state and need three to five full charge-discharge cycles before they hit rated capacity. On the first cycle, the S317 handset may cut out earlier than expected — this is normal cell behaviour, not a fault with the battery. Each subsequent full cycle conditions the cell and recovers more capacity. By cycle five, the pack should be performing at or close to 500mAh.

Base station showing no charge or error light after fitting new pack

A NiMH pack that has sat in storage drops to a low resting voltage — sometimes below the threshold the S317 base station uses to confirm a valid battery is present before it starts charging. The base reads that low voltage as an absent or faulty cell and shows an error or no charge indicator. To recover it, remove the handset, wait 30 seconds, reseat it firmly, and check the contacts are clean. If the error persists, the pack voltage may need a brief trickle from an external NiMH charger at 0.05C to bring it above the base acceptance threshold of approximately 3.0V before normal cradle charging resumes.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Swisscom TOP S317 battery drains completely overnight even when it's sitting in the base — is that the new battery or the handset?

If the handset is not fully seated, the charging contacts don't make a clean connection and the handset draws on battery power instead of the base supply. Check that the handset clicks into the cradle and the charge indicator lights up. A NiMH pack left in standby without a charge input will self-discharge at roughly 1–2% per day, so even a marginal contact issue compounds overnight. Reseat the handset, confirm the charge light is on, and check the contacts on both the handset and cradle with a dry cloth.

The S317 handset lost its pairing with the base station after I swapped the battery — how do I get it back?

Removing the battery cuts all power to the handset, and some DECT phones clear their pairing data when power is fully lost. The fix is to re-register the handset manually. On most Swisscom DECT bases, press and hold the paging/registration button on the base until the base enters registration mode, then navigate to the handset menu under Settings → Register Handset and follow the on-screen steps. The pairing code is usually 0000 by default.

After a few weeks the S317's range seems shorter than before I put in the new battery — what's causing that?

DECT transmit power on the S317 handset is tied to the voltage the NiMH pack can sustain under RF load. If the battery hasn't completed its conditioning cycles yet, voltage sags during each burst transmission, and the handset reduces output power to stay within safe operating range — which cuts range. Run three to five more full charge-discharge cycles to bring the pack to rated capacity. If range is still reduced after conditioning, check that the battery contacts are clean and making firm contact, as even a small resistance increase drops the voltage available to the transmit circuit.
