Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Tiptel Easy DECT 5500 — 3.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery

This 3.6V, 400mAh Ni-MH rechargeable battery fits the Tiptel Easy DECT 5500 cordless phone handset. It slots directly into the handset battery compartment, restoring talk and standby function when the original cell has degraded. Capacity is rated at 1.44Wh and matches the original cell specification.

  • Easy DECT 5500 handset fit: The Easy DECT 5500 runs a 3.6V Ni-MH cell in a specific form factor — 47.25 x 34.20 x 7.87mm. This battery matches that voltage rail and physical envelope so the handset closes fully and the contacts seat correctly against the charging pins.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this battery through charge and discharge on the bench. The cell accepted a full charge without thermal spike, and voltage held steady across the discharge curve until the handset-side low-battery indicator triggered correctly.
  • First-charge conditioning for Ni-MH handsets: Place the handset in the base for a full 16-hour charge before first use. Ni-MH cells in cordless handsets need a slow initial charge to reach rated capacity — skipping this leaves the cell under-formed and talk time noticeably short in the first few uses.

Base station charge light not coming on after installing a new Ni-MH pack

Ni-MH cells can drop to very low voltage during storage — sometimes below 3.0V. Some DECT bases check terminal voltage before starting the charge cycle, and a deeply discharged cell can sit below that acceptance threshold. The base sees the voltage, decides something is wrong, and either flashes an error light or shows nothing at all. Leave the handset seated in the base undisturbed for 30–60 minutes — the trickle pre-charge circuit on most DECT bases will slowly bring the cell up to the 3.6V range before switching to normal charge mode.

Range dropping mid-call after fitting a replacement battery

DECT transmit power draws a sharp current pulse each time the handset communicates with the base. A freshly installed or under-conditioned Ni-MH cell has higher internal resistance than a fully cycled one, causing voltage to sag under that RF load. When voltage sags far enough, the handset reduces transmit power to protect the cell — range collapses noticeably. Running three full charge-and-discharge cycles conditions the cell, lowers internal resistance, and brings voltage sag back under control. After the third full cycle, check that the handset reads at least 3.6V off the charger before testing range again.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Tiptel Easy DECT 5500 talk time is still short after fitting the new battery — what's wrong?

This is normal for the first three to five cycles on a Ni-MH cell. The battery ships in a partially discharged state, and the cells need several full charge-and-discharge cycles before they reach rated capacity. Run the handset down until the low-battery warning appears, then charge fully in the base each time. By the fifth cycle, talk time should reflect the full 400mAh rating.

The handset lost its pairing with the base after I swapped the battery — how do I fix it?

Some DECT handsets lose their pairing data when power is fully removed from the handset, which happens the moment the old battery comes out. This is a firmware behaviour in the handset, not a fault with the new battery. Re-register the handset using the pairing or registration button on the base — hold it until the base LED flashes, then follow the handset prompts. The process takes under two minutes and the handset will reconnect at full signal.

The handset is sitting in the base all day but the battery is nearly flat by morning — is the battery faulty?

A battery draining overnight while the handset is off the base is a standby draw issue — check that the handset is fully seated on the charging cradle with the contacts making firm connection. If the handset is seated correctly and the drain continues, check whether the base power adapter is feeding the cradle; a loose adapter means the base is not charging despite looking normal. Reseat the handset firmly and confirm the charge indicator light on the base activates within 10 seconds of placing the handset down.
