Placing the handset in the base, removing it after 30 seconds, and reseating it can push the base through its detection cycle. DECT transmit power draws a short current spike each time the handset sends a burst to the base. The handset's transmit circuit sees a voltage dip and either reduces power output or drops the link entirely.
