Fits Binatone MD500 cordless handset; replaces OEM 2.4V Ni-MH battery pack.
2.4V and 1200mAh capacity restores full talk time and standby duration on the MD500 handset after original NiMH chemistry loses charge retention.
Battery slides into the handset compartment with connector alignment at the bottom rear; no locking tab — slides in smoothly and sits flush against the housing wall.
We bench-tested this cell in a MD500 handset with a Binatone base station; BMS acceptance voltage stable across five full charge cycles with no base rejection codes.
After installing, place the handset in the base for a full 16-hour charge before first use — NiMH cordless phone batteries need a slow first charge to reach rated capacity.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Binatone MD500 Series — 2.4V Ni-MH 1200mAh Replacement Battery

This is a 2.4V, 1200mAh Ni-MH battery pack for Binatone cordless DECT phones including the MD500, MD-500, Big Button Combi, and Micro DECT compatible handsets. It replaces the original rechargeable cell that powers the handset away from the base station. When the original pack no longer holds a charge, swapping it restores normal cordless operation.

  • MD500 and Micro DECT handset fit: These models share the same 2.4V two-cell NiMH pack configuration, connector pinout, and physical footprint — 50.25 × 28.09 × 14.41mm. The base station charges at a voltage rail matched to this chemistry, so no adapter or modification is needed.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through charge and discharge on a NiMH-compatible analyser. The BMS accepted charge current without rejection, and cell voltage held within spec across repeated cycles with no thermal anomaly.
  • First charge after installation: Place the handset in the base for a full 16 hours before first use. NiMH cordless phone packs shipped in storage discharge and need a slow full charge to reach rated capacity — a short first charge will leave the cells underformed.

Base station charge indicator not lighting after fitting a new NiMH pack

NiMH batteries lose voltage during storage. If the resting voltage drops far enough, the base station's charge circuit may not recognise the pack as a valid load and will show no charge light or an error state. This is not a fault with the battery or the base. Seat the handset firmly in the cradle and leave it for 30–60 minutes — once the trickle stage raises the pack above approximately 2.0V, the base will switch to normal charging mode and the indicator will activate.

Talk time noticeably shorter than the original battery for the first few uses

A new NiMH cell does not deliver full rated capacity on the first cycle. It typically takes three to five full charge-discharge cycles before the cells reach 1200mAh. Using the handset until it beeps low, then returning it to the base for a complete charge each time, works through this conditioning faster. By cycle five, talk time should match or exceed what the worn original pack provided.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Binatone MD500 handset lost its pairing with the base after I swapped the battery — how do I get it back?

Removing the battery cuts all power to the handset, and some DECT phones clear their pairing data when power drops completely. The fix is to re-register the handset through the base station's pairing menu — on most Binatone DECT models, this means pressing and holding the registration button on the base until the handset searches and pairs. Check the MD500 manual for the exact button sequence, as it differs between firmware versions.

The Binatone MD500 drains completely overnight even when it's sitting in the base — is this the new battery?

This points to the handset not making proper contact with the base charging pins, not a battery fault. Check that the handset is fully seated and that the charging contacts on both the handset and cradle are clean — oxidation or debris on the metal pads breaks the charge circuit. Wipe the contacts with a dry cloth, reseat the handset, and confirm the charge indicator lights. If the pack still drains overnight after confirmed contact, the base charging circuit may need attention.

The range on my MD500 seems shorter after fitting the new battery — calls drop when I move further from the base than they used to.

NiMH voltage sags under RF transmit load, especially in the first few cycles before the cells are fully conditioned. When voltage dips, the handset's transmitter cannot sustain full output power, which shortens effective range. Run three to five full charge-discharge cycles to condition the pack, then retest range. If drop-outs persist after conditioning, check that the battery contacts inside the handset are seated flush — a partial connection causes the same voltage sag under load.
