Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

SportDog TEK-H Handheld Transmitter — 3.7V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (SAC54-13815)
This 3.7V 1900mAh Li-Polymer battery replaces the OEM pack in the SportDog TEK-H and TEK-V1LT handheld transmitters, as well as the TEK V1L transmitter and TEK 1.5 GPS Collar. It restores power to the handheld unit you use to communicate with receiver collars during field training sessions. Dimensions are 49.10 × 29.30 × 13.20mm — confirm the pack size against your existing battery before fitting.
- TEK series transmitter compatibility: The TEK-H, TEK-V1LT, and TEK V1L share the same 3.7V battery form factor and connector pinout. The BMS in each unit handshakes at the same voltage threshold, so one pack covers the range without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through the TEK transmitter's charge circuit and confirmed the BMS accepted charge without fault flags, held voltage above 3.6V through discharge, and triggered low-voltage cutoff cleanly before cell damage could occur.
- First GPS acquisition after install: After fitting a fresh battery, take the dog outside immediately and allow 5–10 minutes for the TEK system to complete its cold-start GPS fix. The unit has no almanac data after a full power interruption, so first lock takes longer than the warm-start updates you see during normal use.
Battery draining faster in open rural terrain than in suburban use
In low-signal areas, the TEK collar's GPS and cellular radios increase transmit power to maintain a fix and push location data. That extra radio load pulls more current from the pack than flat-terrain, strong-signal sessions do. The handheld transmitter also polls the collar more aggressively when signal is weak, adding to draw on that battery too. If your field sessions are in heavily wooded or remote areas, expect shorter intervals between charges compared to the rated figures measured under open-sky, good-signal conditions.
Collar stops syncing to the TEK app after a battery swap
A full power cycle clears the collar's active Bluetooth and cellular session state — it does not automatically re-register with the app. Open the SportDog TEK app, navigate to device management, and force a re-pair rather than waiting for the collar to reconnect on its own. If the app shows the collar as offline after pairing, check that the collar firmware completed its boot sequence by confirming the status LED is steady rather than still cycling. A steady LED confirms the unit is back at operational voltage and ready to sync.

Frequently Asked Questions
My TEK collar got a new battery but it won't get a GPS fix — is the battery the problem?
No — this is a cold-start issue, not a battery fault. After any full power interruption, the GPS module has no almanac data and needs to rebuild its satellite picture from scratch. Take the dog outside to open sky and wait 5–10 minutes without moving; the first fix always takes longer than the warm-start updates the unit does during normal use. If it still hasn't locked after 10 minutes outdoors, check that the collar's status LED has stabilised, which confirms it has reached normal operating voltage and the GPS radio is active.
The TEK handset battery drains much faster now than it did when the unit was new — why?
Shallow cycling is the most common cause. If the original pack was repeatedly topped up from 60–80% rather than discharged more fully before charging, the Li-Polymer cells develop capacity fade faster than a pack that sees deeper cycles. A replacement 1900mAh pack will restore full capacity, but the same shallow-cycle habit will degrade the new pack in the same way. Let the transmitter discharge to the low-battery warning before plugging in, and you'll get significantly more cycles from the replacement.
The TEK collar's location updates stopped being live — it only shows position every few minutes instead of continuously.
The collar has switched from active tracking mode to periodic reporting mode, most likely because it detected a low-voltage condition and throttled GPS polling to conserve power. Check the battery voltage — if the pack is below 3.5V under load, the collar's firmware will reduce update frequency to protect the cell. Fitting a fully charged replacement pack and confirming the collar's LED shows normal operating status should restore continuous location updates without any app setting changes.
