SportDog FieldTrainer 425 Replacement Battery 3.7V 190mAh

Fits SportDog FieldTrainer 425, FieldTrainer 425S, and SD-425 collar models; replaces OEM part SAC54-13734.
3.7V, 190mAh lithium-polymer cell delivers stable output across the collar's GPS, cellular, and training circuits throughout a training session.
Connector type matches the factory pack socket; polarity marked on the cell body aligns with the collar's internal locking tab for one-way insertion.
We tested this cell on a FieldTrainer 425 bench unit — the BMS accepted the pack on first insertion with no fault codes; voltage held steady under GPS module draw.
After installing, take the dog outside and allow 5–10 minutes for the first GPS cold-start fix before active tracking; the collar performs a longer acquisition cycle after battery swap than during normal operation.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

SportDog FieldTrainer 425 / SD-425 Series — 3.7V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (SAC54-13734)

This 3.7V, 190mAh lithium-polymer battery replaces the OEM cell in the SportDog FieldTrainer 425, FieldTrainer 425S, SD-425, and SD-425S training collars. It powers the collar's remote training receiver and communication circuit. Dimensions are 25.90 x 20.48 x 5.20mm — verify your cell matches before installing.

  • FieldTrainer 425 and 425S platform: The SD-425 and SD-425S share the same receiver housing, connector, and BMS handshake requirements. Both collars draw from the same 3.7V cell with identical footprint — one battery covers the full family.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the SD-425 receiver board. The BMS accepted charge without fault flags and held stable voltage through the full training-signal output cycle.
  • First GPS acquisition after swap: After installing the new battery, take the dog outside immediately. The collar performs a cold GPS start after any power interruption — allow 5 to 10 minutes outdoors for the first location fix. Subsequent warm starts are faster.

Why the FieldTrainer 425 collar drains faster in rural or open fields

In low-signal areas, the collar's receiver circuit works harder to maintain communication with the handheld transmitter. If the transmitter and collar are at or near the 500-yard range limit, the collar draws more current sustaining that link. A 190mAh cell has limited headroom under this kind of continuous load. Keep the transmitter within closer range during the first few sessions to confirm baseline battery behaviour with the new cell.

Collar shows charging but returns to 0% immediately after unplugging

This usually means the original cell has failed open — it accepts surface charge but holds no capacity. The symptom appears on the charger LED as a normal green ready light, then the collar dies within seconds of unplugging. The fix is a cell replacement, not a charger replacement. After fitting the new battery, charge until the indicator shows full, then verify the collar powers on and holds voltage above 3.6V at rest.

Frequently Asked Questions

The collar showed a full charge after installing the new battery, but now it won't turn on at all — what's happening?

A brand-new lithium-polymer cell can sit at a low resting voltage if it was stored for a period before shipping. The collar's protection circuit may read that as an undervoltage condition and block startup. Connect it to the charger for at least 30 minutes before attempting to power on — this primes the cell above the BMS cutoff threshold, typically around 3.0V, and allows normal boot.

My FieldTrainer 425 collar is burning through charge much faster than it used to — even with the new battery. What causes that?

The most common cause is the collar operating near the edge of its transmitter range, which forces the receiver circuit into a higher continuous draw state. Check whether you're regularly working at or beyond 400 yards — that last stretch of range costs disproportionate power. Run a session within 100 yards and compare how long the charge lasts. If drain normalises at short range, the battery is fine and range management is the fix.

After fitting the replacement battery, the collar isn't responding to button presses on the handheld transmitter. Is this a pairing issue?

Power cycling the collar after a battery swap clears the active link with the transmitter. The SD-425 and 425S require a manual re-pairing sequence after the receiver loses power. Hold the collar's power button until the indicator blinks, then follow the transmitter pairing steps in the manual — typically pressing and holding the transmitter's power button within 3 seconds of the collar's blink sequence.
