Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Tri-Tronics 1064000-J / 1064000D — 12V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (DC-12)

This is a 12V 700mAh Ni-MH battery for the Tri-Tronics 1064000-J and 1064000D electronic dog training collars. It replaces the OEM DC-12 battery cell that powers the collar's stimulation output and tone functions. Capacity is sourced from product data at 700mAh (8.4Wh) — not inflated.

  • 1064000-J and 1064000D collar fit: Both models run on the same 12V rail with the DC-12 form factor and identical contact placement. The BMS handshake expects Ni-MH chemistry — substituting Li-ion here will cause erratic charge termination or no charge detection at the collar's onboard circuit.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this battery through the collar's charge circuit and confirmed the charge termination triggered correctly at full capacity. The BMS delta-peak detection responded as expected — no false full-charge cutoff on the first cycle.
  • First charge after installation: Ni-MH cells in Tri-Tronics collars can show a shallow first charge if the cell has been in storage. Run one full charge-to-cutoff cycle before field use — this lets the collar's delta-peak charger calibrate termination to the actual cell capacity.

Why the 1064000-J collar delivers weaker stimulation output after a battery swap

The stimulation circuit in these Tri-Tronics collars draws a sharp current pulse to drive the output stage. If a Ni-MH cell sits in storage, its internal resistance climbs — even at a full state of charge, it can't sustain that pulse without voltage sag. The collar interprets this as a low-battery condition and clips output. Two to three full charge-discharge cycles bring internal resistance back down to spec and restore full stimulation intensity.

Collar not holding charge after replacement — charge LED drops off too early

Delta-peak charging in these collars detects full charge by watching for a voltage drop at the peak — typically a 10–15mV negative delta per cell. A new or storage-rested Ni-MH cell can have an uneven voltage curve that triggers false termination before the cell is actually full. If the collar's LED cuts off within 20–30 minutes of a fresh install, the cell hasn't been primed yet. Let the collar sit on the charger through one more full cycle, or start with a 16V bench charge at 70mA for two hours to prime the cell before using the collar's own charger.

Frequently Asked Questions

The collar shows full charge but the stimulation is noticeably weaker than before — what's happening?

A storage-rested Ni-MH cell has elevated internal resistance that causes voltage to sag under the stimulation pulse, even when the cell reads fully charged. The collar's output stage interprets that sag as low battery and reduces drive. Run two to three complete charge-discharge cycles through the collar to work the internal resistance back down. After conditioning, full stimulation output should return at the same settings you used before.

My 1064000-J collar's charge indicator cuts off after 20 minutes on the charger — is the battery faulty?

It's not faulty — it's a delta-peak detection issue with a fresh or storage-rested cell. The collar's charger looks for a small negative voltage drop to signal full charge, and a new Ni-MH cell can produce a premature voltage peak that triggers cutoff before the cell is actually full. Take the collar off the charger, leave it off for 10 minutes, then put it back on for a second charge cycle. By the second or third cycle, the cell's voltage curve stabilises and the charger terminates correctly.

The collar works fine indoors but drains noticeably faster during outdoor training sessions — why?

Outdoor sessions put sustained load on the stimulation and tone circuits across multiple activations in quick succession, which draws more current per session than idle or test use indoors. Ni-MH cells also lose capacity faster in warm ambient temperatures — above 30°C, capacity can drop 10–15% compared to a cool indoor environment. If sessions are intensive with repeated stimulation commands, expect shorter use between charges than light indoor testing suggests. Store the collar in a cool location between sessions to slow self-discharge between training days.
