Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Saflock A28980 — 3.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (DL-48)

This is a 3.6V 2700mAh Ni-MH battery built to the DL-48 specification for the Saflock A28980 electronic door lock. It fits residential and commercial access control installations where the original cell has depleted and the lock has stopped responding or begun signalling low power. Voltage and capacity match the original pack exactly.

  • A28980 compatibility: The A28980 lock draws from a single 3.6V Ni-MH cell. The DL-48 format matches the original connector, physical envelope (50.60 × 51.00 × 17.00mm), and voltage rail. Substituting a different chemistry or voltage will trip the lock's internal protection circuit.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through the A28980 lock's power-on sequence and confirmed the BMS accepted the charge state without fault codes. Motor engagement, keypad polling, and standby draw all registered within normal parameters.
  • Post-swap access verification: After fitting this battery, test every access method — keypad code, Bluetooth app, and any programmed keycards — before closing the door. The A28980 may need to complete a firmware handshake after power interruption before all credential types are accepted.

Why the A28980 stays unresponsive after a fresh battery install

Ni-MH cells supplied in long-term storage can sit at 3.2V or below. The A28980 lock requires a minimum voltage threshold before it will initialise its control board. If the cell voltage is too low on first insert, the lock draws nothing visible and appears dead. Remove the battery, charge it externally to at least 3.5V, then reinsert — the lock should complete its boot sequence within 10 seconds.

Low battery warning persists immediately after fitting the new DL-48

The A28980 reads cell voltage at the moment of insertion. A new Ni-MH battery fresh from packaging may read lower than 3.4V due to self-discharge during storage. The lock interprets anything below its threshold as a depleted cell and continues beeping. Connect the battery to a Ni-MH compatible charger, bring it to a full charge cycle, then reinstall. The warning should clear once the lock reads voltage above 3.5V on next power-on.

Frequently Asked Questions

My A28980 lock motor is grinding slowly after I put in the new battery — what's wrong?

A slow or laboured motor on the A28980 almost always means the cell voltage is too low to sustain the motor-start current surge. Ni-MH batteries in storage lose charge and can sit well below 3.5V by the time they reach you. Remove the DL-48 cell, charge it fully on a Ni-MH compatible charger, and reinsert — motor speed should return to normal once the cell holds above 3.5V under load.

My Bluetooth app can't find the A28980 lock after the battery swap — is the lock broken?

It's not broken. The A28980's Bluetooth module loses its active pairing state when power is interrupted. On some firmware versions, the module does not automatically re-advertise after a cold boot. Open your lock's app, delete the existing device entry, then follow the app's add-device flow to re-pair from scratch — the lock should appear in the scan list within 30 seconds of a fresh battery insert.

The A28980 keypad worked immediately after the swap but now rejects every code — what happened?

The A28980 can enter a lockout state if multiple incorrect entries are logged during the post-power-cycle initialisation window. This sometimes happens if codes are entered before the firmware handshake fully completes. Perform a hard power cycle — remove the DL-48 battery, wait 30 seconds, reinsert — then wait for the lock's indicator light to go solid before entering any code.
