This 3.7V, 1500mAh lithium-polymer cell replaces the original battery in the Kobo Glo HD, Aura, and H2O e-readers. All three models use the same physical cell format and connector — 84.15 × 49.50 × 2.70mm — so one part covers the full range. Swap it in when the original no longer holds a usable charge between reading sessions.

  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell on the Glo HD platform and confirmed the BMS accepted the cell without a fault flag, backlight control remained stable across brightness levels, and charge termination triggered correctly at 4.2V.
  • Post-swap charge cycle on Kobo firmware: After installing, connect via USB and let the device charge to 100% before use. Kobo firmware recalibrates the battery percentage display only after a complete charge cycle — skipping this step causes the indicator to read inaccurately for days.

Kobo Glo HD not powering on after battery swap

Replacement cells ship at storage voltage — typically 3.6V to 3.85V — which can fall below the Kobo bootloader's minimum startup threshold. The device will appear completely dead even though the cell is functional. Connect the USB cable immediately after installation and leave it on charge for at least 10 minutes before pressing the power button. Once the cell clears approximately 3.7V under USB input, the bootloader initialises normally.

Battery percentage jumping or freezing after cell replacement

Kobo firmware stores discharge curve data calibrated to the original cell. A new cell has no matching history, so the percentage gauge reads from stale data until it recalibrates. You will see the indicator jump — sometimes dropping 20% suddenly or sticking at one number for extended use. Run two full charge-to-discharge cycles and the firmware rewrites the curve to match the new cell's actual behaviour.

It is not faulty. Replacement Li-Polymer cells ship at reduced storage voltage, and Kobo firmware displays a low battery warning any time the cell reads below roughly 3.7V on startup. Plug the device into USB immediately and let it charge without interruption to 100%. The warning clears once the cell reaches operating voltage and the firmware registers a full charge.

Page turns on my Kobo feel sluggish after the battery swap — what causes that?

E-ink displays require a voltage spike to refresh each page. When cell voltage sags — even briefly — the controller slows the refresh cycle to stay within safe limits, and page turns feel delayed. This is most noticeable in the first few uses before the new cell has been through a full charge cycle. Charge to 100% and complete one full discharge before drawing conclusions about refresh speed.

WiFi sync is draining my Kobo's new battery far faster than reading alone — is that normal?

Yes, and the gap is significant. The WiFi radio draws roughly 10 to 15 times more current than the e-ink display during normal reading. The Glo HD's low-power display can run for extended periods with the radio off, but repeated syncs or leaving WiFi on in standby substantially shortens each charge. Set the device to sync on demand rather than automatically, and switch WiFi off between sessions to reduce that draw.
