Fits Sony PRS-950 and PRS-950SC e-readers; replaces OEM part LIS1460HEPC.
3.7V, 1700mAh Li-Polymer cell delivers full charge cycles to the e-ink display.
Connector inserts vertically into the battery slot; locking tab secures the cell flat.
We bench-tested this pack on a PRS-950 — BMS accepted the cell without fault codes.
After installation, charge via USB for one full cycle before opening books; the firmware recalibrates battery percentage display after a cell swap.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Sony PRS-950 / PRS-950SC — 3.7V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (LIS1460HEPC)

This 3.7V, 1700mAh Li-Polymer cell replaces the original LIS1460HEPC battery in the Sony Reader PRS-950 and PRS-950SC e-readers. The thin 3.77mm profile fits the slim chassis without modification. Dimensions are 99.45 × 43.00 × 3.77mm — verify these against your existing cell before fitting.

  • PRS-950 and PRS-950SC compatibility: Both models share the same battery bay dimensions, connector pinout, and Sony BMS handshake protocol. One cell covers both variants without any adapter or rewiring.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on a PRS-950 unit. The BMS accepted the cell immediately, balanced charge terminated cleanly at 4.2V, and the firmware reported state-of-charge without errors.
  • Post-swap charge cycle on the PRS-950: After fitting this cell, connect the reader via USB and allow a full charge before use. The PRS-950 firmware recalibrates its battery percentage display against a complete charge cycle — skipping this step causes inaccurate gauge readings from the first use onward.

Why the PRS-950 shows low battery immediately after a new cell is fitted

Li-Polymer cells ship at storage voltage — typically 3.6V to 3.85V — not at full charge. The PRS-950 firmware reads this as a partially depleted battery rather than a new one. The percentage display will appear low or erratic until the cell reaches a full 4.2V charge. This is a firmware calibration behaviour, not a fault with the replacement cell.

PRS-950 not powering on after battery replacement

If the reader won't boot after the swap, the cell voltage is likely below the minimum boot threshold the device requires to start. Connect the PRS-950 to a USB charger and leave it for at least 10 minutes without pressing the power button. The charging circuit will raise the cell voltage above the boot floor. Once it powers on, allow a full charge cycle to complete before disconnecting — target a full 4.2V termination.

Frequently Asked Questions

My PRS-950 battery percentage jumps around after I put in the new cell — is something wrong?

Nothing is wrong with the cell. The PRS-950 firmware builds its battery model against charge and discharge history, and a fresh cell has none. The percentage will stabilise after one or two full charge and discharge cycles as the firmware maps the new cell's actual capacity. Run it down to the low-battery warning, then charge fully to 4.2V — repeat once and the gauge will read accurately.

The PRS-950 powers on fine with the new battery, but the screen is slow to refresh between pages — what's causing that?

E-ink panels draw a short voltage spike each time the display refreshes. If the cell voltage is sitting below 3.8V — common during the first partial cycle after installation — that spike takes longer to recover, and the controller slows the refresh sequence to compensate. Charge the reader fully before reading. Once the cell is at 4.2V and has completed one full cycle, refresh speed returns to normal.

WiFi sync on the PRS-950 is draining the new battery far faster than just reading — is the cell faulty?

The cell is not faulty. WiFi draws significantly more current than the e-ink display alone — the radio pulls a sustained load that the display never does during reading. This is normal behaviour and identical to what you would see with an original Sony cell. Turn WiFi off when not actively syncing content; the PRS-950 does not need a live connection for reading, and disabling it between syncs will extend use time considerably.
