Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Beghelli 415393001 / N93201LG — 7.2V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (98100137)
This is a 7.2V 2000mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for Beghelli emergency lighting units, specifically the 415393001 and N93201LG fittings. It slots in where the original cell has degraded after repeated charge cycles, restoring the unit's ability to illuminate safety routes during a mains failure. Capacity is rated at 14.4Wh, matching the original OEM specification.
- 415393001 and N93201LG platform: Both fittings share the same cell format, voltage rail, and charge controller logic. The 98100137 cell geometry — 53.20 × 27.50 × 27.50mm in a twin-pack configuration — matches the OEM footprint so the charge controller handshake proceeds without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through a full charge cycle and a load discharge on the bench. The Ni-MH BMS accepted the charge without flagging a fault, and the cell held voltage under load through the complete test duration.
- First-cycle conditioning on emergency fittings: Hold the test button within 24 hours of installation and run the unit through its full rated duration test. This lets the charge controller register the new cell capacity before the next scheduled compliance test, and confirms the cell accepts load correctly from a cold state.
Charge indicator staying red after new battery installation
Beghelli charge controllers on this fitting family use a float-voltage threshold to confirm a cell is present and within the acceptance window. A Ni-MH cell that has sat in storage for several months will arrive at a suppressed open-circuit voltage — often below the float threshold the controller expects. The controller interprets this as a fault rather than a charging cell, so the LED stays red. Leave the fitting connected to mains for a full 24-hour charge cycle before judging the indicator state; the cell voltage will climb into the acceptance window and the indicator should shift to green. If it does not after 24 hours, check that the cell connector is fully seated and measure across the terminals — a healthy charged cell should read at or above 8.4V open-circuit.
Emergency light failing its duration test after battery replacement
A freshly installed Ni-MH cell does not always reach its rated capacity on the first activation — especially after storage. During a duration test, this shows up as the fitting cutting out or dimming before the rated period ends, which triggers a compliance failure. The fix is a conditioning cycle: allow a full 24-hour mains charge before the test, then run the test button for the complete duration. Capacity typically reaches its rated level by the second or third full cycle. Do not log a compliance failure until at least one full conditioning cycle has been completed after installation.

Frequently Asked Questions
The fitting still shows a fault LED even though the new battery is installed correctly — what's going on?
Some Beghelli fittings latch the fault LED in hardware and do not clear it automatically when a new cell is detected. The fault state has to be reset manually by holding the test button for three to five seconds while the fitting is on mains power. If the LED clears and then returns within the first 24 hours, the cell voltage is still climbing from a storage-suppressed state — give it a full charge cycle before testing again.
The light runs for a short time during a test and then dims noticeably — is the battery faulty?
Not necessarily. A Ni-MH cell that hasn't completed a full charge cycle will show early voltage sag under load, which the fitting's driver interprets as a low-cell condition and responds to by reducing output. This is a first-activation behaviour, not a defective cell. Charge the fitting on mains for a full 24 hours, then rerun the duration test — output should remain consistent through the complete rated period.
The old battery was visibly swollen when we removed it — could that damage the fitting's charge circuit?
Swelling in a Ni-MH cell inside a sealed emergency fitting is usually caused by years of continuous trickle charge at elevated internal temperatures. Before fitting the replacement, inspect the charge board contacts for corrosion or heat discolouration — a damaged charge circuit can apply an uncontrolled trickle that will swell the new cell over time as well. Check that the replacement cell sits flush with no pressure against the housing. If the contacts show visible burn marks, the charge board needs replacing before the new cell is installed.
