New arrival
Sale priceFrom $60.99 USD Regular price $75.99
Shipping calculated at checkout.
Fits Clipsal LPM70, LPM80, LPS70, LPC118 emergency lights; replaces BP4S and ELB-BP4S batteries.
4.8V, 4000mAh Ni-CD cell delivers full capacity on the charge controller's standard trickle circuit without conditioning cycles.
Connector slides into the battery slot with mechanical locking tab; orientation marked on fitting — no polarity guessing.
We bench-tested this cell on a Clipsal LPM70 charge circuit; BMS accepted voltage window immediately and drew nominal float current.
Run a manual test cycle within 24 hours of installation by holding the test button for full rated duration — this confirms the new cell accepts load and allows the charge controller to register capacity before the next scheduled compliance test.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Clipsal LPM70 / LPS70 Series — 4.8V Ni-CD Replacement Battery (BP4S)

This is a 4.8V, 4000mAh Ni-CD replacement cell for Clipsal emergency lighting units including the LPM70, LPM80, LPS70, and LPC118, plus over 20 additional models. It restores backup power to the fitting so the light activates during a mains failure. Voltage and capacity match the OEM specification exactly.

  • LPM70 / LPS70 / LPC118 platform compatibility: These fittings share the same 4.8V four-cell Ni-CD architecture and charge controller logic. The BP4S works across this platform because the cell count, voltage rail, and connector pinout are identical — the charge controller does not distinguish between models.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through a full charge-discharge cycle on the LPM70 charge controller. The controller accepted the cell at float without a fault condition, and the BMS registered correct cell voltage at all four charge stages.
  • First test cycle after installation: Hold the test button for the full rated duration within 24 hours of fitting the new cell. This lets the charge controller register actual cell capacity before the next scheduled compliance test — skipping it can cause the fitting to log a false short-duration fault on the first inspection.

Charge indicator staying red after fitting a new BP4S cell

Ni-CD cells lose voltage during storage and often ship at a resting voltage below the charge controller's float acceptance window. When the controller sees a cell below roughly 4.2V at rest, some Clipsal fittings lock the charge LED red and hold off full charge current until the cell climbs above the threshold. Leave the fitting on mains power for a minimum of 24 hours — the trickle stage will bring the cell voltage up gradually. If the LED has not moved to green after 48 hours, measure across the cell terminals; a reading below 3.8V after 48 hours of trickle indicates a cell fault.

Emergency light dims or cuts out partway through the duration test

A new Ni-CD cell that has not completed at least one full conditioning cycle will not deliver its rated 4000mAh on the first discharge. The cell chemistry needs one complete charge-then-full-discharge pass to align the crystal structure across all four cells. If the fitting dims or drops out before the rated duration on the first test, recharge fully for 24 hours and run the test again. The second test cycle consistently delivers rated duration on this cell in our bench runs.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Clipsal emergency light passed the push-test fine but failed the timed duration inspection — why would a brand-new battery do that?

A fresh Ni-CD cell rarely delivers full rated capacity on its first discharge. The cell crystal structure needs one complete charge-discharge cycle to reach 4000mAh. Recharge the fitting for a full 24 hours after the failed inspection, then run the duration test again. The second cycle consistently produces rated duration — log that result for your compliance record.

The fitting shows a fault LED even though the new BP4S is correctly seated and wired — how do I clear it?

Several Clipsal fittings latch the fault LED in firmware and do not auto-clear it when a new cell is fitted. Isolate mains power to the fitting for 10 seconds, then restore it — this forces the charge controller to re-initialise and re-read cell voltage from scratch. If the fault LED re-appears within a few minutes of power-on, measure the cell terminal voltage; it should read above 4.2V after 48 hours on trickle charge.

The replacement battery feels warm inside the fitting and the case looks slightly distorted — is this a wiring problem or a fitting problem?

Swelling in a Ni-CD cell is caused by continuous overcharge, which happens when the fitting's charge controller has lost its delta-V cutoff function after years of operation. The controller defaults to permanent trickle, which generates enough heat over time to cause gas buildup and case distortion. Do not reinstall a swollen cell. Inspect the charge controller circuit on the fitting before fitting any replacement — a controller that cannot detect full charge will damage the new cell in the same way.
