Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Cooper Industries 6200-RP — 4.8V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (4-TD-800AA-HP)
This is a 4.8V 1500mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Cooper Industries 6200-RP emergency lighting unit. It slots directly into the fitting and connects to the onboard charge controller. Capacity is 1500mAh (7.2Wh), matching the original cell specification.
- 6200-RP compatibility: The 6200-RP uses a 4.8V NiMH cell pack with a specific connector orientation and physical footprint. This pack matches that voltage rail and physical format, so the charge controller sees the correct chemistry and applies the right float charge current without being forced into a mismatched charging profile.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell pack through a full charge cycle and a load test simulating emergency activation. The BMS accepted the cell, reached float without tripping a fault, and the pack sustained load without a premature cutoff event.
- First-cycle commissioning on the 6200-RP: After installation, hold the test button for the full rated duration within 24 hours. This lets the charge controller register the new cell capacity before the next scheduled compliance test — skipping this step often causes the first duration test to fall short of the rated period.
Charge indicator staying red after new battery installation in the 6200-RP
A new Ni-MH cell pack arrives from storage with a resting voltage that may sit outside the float acceptance window of the 6200-RP charge controller. When the controller reads that voltage, it treats the cell as a fault rather than a fresh charge cycle. This is not a wiring problem — it is the controller waiting for the cell voltage to climb into the expected range. Leave the fitting connected to mains for 24 hours. If the indicator has not moved to green after that period, check cell voltage directly with a multimeter — it should read above 4.6V before the controller transitions out of the red state.
Emergency light dims and loses brightness partway through a duration test
Dimming mid-test almost always means the cell was not fully charged before the test was triggered. A new Ni-MH pack needs at least one uninterrupted 24-hour charge on mains before it delivers full rated capacity under load. Triggering the test button the same day the battery is installed gives the cell no time to reach a full state of charge. Allow the full conditioning charge, then run the test — the pack should sustain lamp output at rated voltage through the complete test duration.

Frequently Asked Questions
The 6200-RP passed its last test fine but now fails the duration test after I put in this new battery — did I get a faulty pack?
Almost certainly not. A new Ni-MH cell needs one full 24-hour charge on mains before it delivers rated capacity under load. If the test was triggered the same day as installation, the cell simply was not fully charged yet. Reconnect to mains, wait the full 24 hours, then run the duration test again.
The fitting still shows a fault LED after I confirmed the new battery is seated and wired correctly — why won't it clear?
Some 6200-RP fittings latch a fault LED in firmware and do not auto-clear when the fault condition resolves. Disconnecting mains power for 30 seconds and reconnecting forces a controller reset on most units. If the LED persists after the reset and the cell reads above 4.6V at the terminals, check that the connector polarity matches the original orientation before assuming a cell defect.
The old battery had visibly swollen inside the fitting — what caused that and will it happen again with this replacement?
Swelling on Ni-MH cells in emergency fittings is almost always overcharge damage caused by years of continuous trickle charge in an enclosed space with poor airflow. The charge controller degrades over time and can drift into an overcharge state. Inspect the fitting for blocked ventilation slots and clean any debris before installing the new pack. If the fitting runs warm to the touch under normal standby conditions, have the charge controller checked — replacing the cell without addressing that will damage the new pack the same way.
