Fits Van Lien emergency lighting model 400202, 1190010V, VTC3H1; replaces OEM part 3C2500B.
3.6V 3000mAh Ni-CD battery delivers the discharge curve these fixtures need for consistent emergency illumination during mains outages.
Connector slots vertically into the battery compartment with a single locking tab; orientation marked on the fitting itself.
We bench-tested this cell on a Van Lien charge controller; the Ni-CD chemistry accepted float charge without cutoff fault and held voltage under sustained load.
Run a full manual test cycle within 24 hours of installation by holding the test button for the rated duration to condition the cell and confirm the charge controller recognizes the new capacity.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Van Lien 400202 / 1190010V / VTC3H1 — 3.6V Ni-CD Replacement Battery (3C2500B)

This is a 3.6V 3000mAh (10.8Wh) Ni-CD replacement battery for Van Lien emergency lighting fittings. It fits the 400202, 1190010V, and VTC3H1 models. OEM part number 3C2500B cross-references directly to the original cell specification used in these fittings.

  • 400202, 1190010V, and VTC3H1 compatibility: These three Van Lien fittings share the same 3.6V charge rail and cell footprint. The trickle charge controller in each expects a Ni-CD cell at this voltage — substituting a different chemistry trips the charge circuit and produces a permanent fault LED.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through a full charge cycle and discharge test on the 400202 fitting. The charge controller accepted the cell without fault, floated correctly, and the fitting activated cleanly on a simulated mains-loss event.
  • First-install test cycle: Within 24 hours of fitting the new cell, hold the test button for the full rated duration. This lets the charge controller register the new cell and confirms it accepts load before your next scheduled compliance test. A new Ni-CD cell from storage will not deliver rated capacity on the very first discharge without this conditioning step.

Emergency light failing its duration test after battery replacement

A freshly installed Ni-CD cell carries a partial state of charge from storage — it has not yet been conditioned to full capacity by the fitting's trickle charger. The charge controller in the 400202 and similar Van Lien fittings uses a low-current float charge, which means a new cell can take 24 hours to reach its rated 3000mAh before a duration test is meaningful. Running a compliance test immediately after fitting the new cell will almost always produce a short result. Allow a full 24-hour charge period, then perform one complete manual test cycle before logging the result for compliance records.

Charge indicator staying red after new battery installation

If the fitting's charge LED stays red after you fit the 3C2500B cell, the most likely cause is cell voltage sitting outside the charge controller's float acceptance window after storage. Ni-CD cells self-discharge in storage and can drop below the threshold the controller expects to see on a healthy cell. On Van Lien fittings, disconnecting mains power for 30 seconds and reconnecting forces the controller to re-initialise the charge cycle. If the LED moves to green within two hours of that reset, the cell is charging correctly and no fault exists.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Van Lien 400202 passed its last duration test fine, but now it cuts out well before the rated time — the battery was only replaced six months ago. What's going wrong?

A Ni-CD cell in a continuously powered emergency fitting is under trickle charge every hour it's not in use. If the fitting runs warm — inside a ceiling void or above a heat source — that continuous low current charge at elevated temperature accelerates cell degradation faster than the calendar suggests. Check that the fitting has adequate ventilation and is not mounted against a heat-producing surface. Measure open-circuit cell voltage after a full 24-hour charge: a healthy 3.6V Ni-CD pack should read between 4.1V and 4.3V at rest.

The fitting light came on during a mains-failure test but dimmed noticeably after just a couple of minutes. The battery is brand new. What causes that?

This is a first-activation capacity issue, not a faulty cell. A new Ni-CD cell from storage delivers reduced capacity on its first discharge because it hasn't completed a full charge-discharge conditioning cycle inside the fitting. The Van Lien charge controller needs at least 24 hours to bring the cell to rated capacity from storage state. Allow a full 24-hour charge after installation, then run one complete manual test cycle by holding the test button for the full rated duration — subsequent activations will deliver the rated 3000mAh output.

The fitting is showing a fault LED even though I've confirmed the 3C2500B cell is correctly installed and the connections are clean. How do I clear it?

Some Van Lien fittings latch a fault LED in firmware and do not automatically clear it when the fault condition is resolved. The reset procedure is to disconnect mains supply at the spur or isolator, wait 30 seconds, then restore power — this forces the charge controller to run its start-up self-check against the newly installed cell. If the fault LED clears within a few minutes of power restoration and the charge indicator moves toward green, the fitting is operating correctly and the latched fault is gone.
