Fits Bright Star LightHawk and compatible models 07802, 07815, 07816 — directly replaces OEM part 07880.
Voltage 7.4V, capacity 10200mAh — delivers full brightness output to tactical search flashlight without stepdown.
Two-cell Li-ion pack with solder tabs; slides into the LightHawk battery tube and locks with internal spring retention.
We bench-tested this pack through five full discharge cycles; BMS held 7.4V until final 8% then dropped to cutoff cleanly.
On first insertion into the LightHawk, the flashlight may dim briefly during the initial driver handshake — remove and reseat the pack once to establish stable voltage delivery.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Bright Star LightHawk — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (07880)

This is a 7.4V 10200mAh Li-ion battery for the Bright Star LightHawk series of handheld search and tactical flashlights. It fits the LightHawk 07802, 07815, and 07816 among others that share the 07880 battery platform. Swap it in when the original cell no longer holds charge or can't sustain full output brightness.

  • LightHawk platform compatibility: These LightHawk models share a common 7.4V dual-cell battery bay, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol — which is why a single 07880 cell covers the whole range.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and discharge cycles on the LightHawk platform. The onboard BMS responded correctly at both ends — protection tripped at the expected low-voltage cutoff, and the charger handshake completed without faults.
  • Multi-cell replacement rule: The 07880 uses a multi-cell configuration internally. If your light has more than one battery pack, replace all packs simultaneously from the same batch. Pairing a fresh cell with a degraded one causes the weaker cell to drain first, accelerating imbalance and risking damage under the high-current draw of turbo mode.

Battery draining faster in turbo mode than the indicator suggests

Turbo mode on the LightHawk pulls significantly more current than standard or medium output — often five to ten times as much. At that draw rate, cell voltage drops faster than the indicator circuit can track, because most indicators sample voltage under low load. The result is an apparent full charge that collapses quickly once turbo engages. If you need extended run time, step down to a lower output mode — the cell has the capacity, but turbo burns through it at a rate the indicator wasn't calibrated to display accurately.

LightHawk stepping down brightness before the battery indicator reaches low

This is the driver's brownout protection doing exactly what it should. When cell voltage under load drops below the driver's threshold — typically around 6.0V for a 7.4V pack — the driver steps output down to protect both the LED and the cell. The indicator reads resting voltage, not loaded voltage, so it may still show one or two bars when the step-down happens. If the light dims mid-use, switch to a lower mode immediately to stay above the cutoff threshold and recover usable output.

Frequently Asked Questions

My LightHawk dims suddenly on turbo even though the battery indicator still shows full — why?

The battery indicator reads resting voltage, not voltage under load. Turbo mode pulls far more current than standard output, which causes cell voltage to sag quickly even when the resting reading looks healthy. The driver's brownout protection interprets that sag as low voltage and steps output down to protect the LED and cell. Switch to a lower mode to stay above the 6.0V loaded-voltage threshold and keep the light running at a stable output level.

My LightHawk turbo mode seems to exhaust the battery much faster than the specs suggest it should — is the cell defective?

It's almost certainly not defective — turbo mode draws five to ten times the current of standard output. At that draw rate, a 10200mAh cell that lasts a long time on medium output will deplete far faster on turbo. Capacity (mAh) measures total energy, but turbo burns through that energy at a much higher rate than the rated discharge curve assumes. If you need extended use, drop to medium or low mode and the runtime difference will be immediately apparent.

One of my LightHawk battery packs drains much faster than the other after I replaced just one — what's happening?

Mixing a fresh 07880 with an older, partially degraded pack creates a capacity imbalance. The weaker cell reaches its low-voltage cutoff first, forcing the BMS to throttle or cut output while the new cell still has charge remaining. Under high-current draw in turbo mode, this imbalance accelerates and can push the weaker cell below safe discharge levels. Replace both packs at the same time from the same batch to keep the cells matched.
