Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Facom 779.CL16 / 779.CL1 — 7.2V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (31059063)
This is a 7.2V 2700mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Facom 779.CL16 and 779.CL1 work lights. It matches OEM part number 31059063 and slots directly into the battery compartment of both torch models. The 19.44Wh capacity keeps the LED driver fed through extended sessions in automotive bays and confined workspaces.
- 779.CL16 and 779.CL1 compatibility: Both torches share the same 7.2V six-cell Ni-MH pack format, physical dimensions, and connector orientation — one battery covers both models without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through charge and discharge on the 779.CL16 driver board. The BMS accepted full charge termination cleanly and the driver held regulated output through the discharge curve without premature dimming steps.
- Multi-cell replacement discipline: Never mix this new pack with any surviving original cells inside the torch. The 779.CL16 runs six cells in series — one weaker cell will drag down the entire string under high-current draw and will reverse-charge at end of discharge, shortening its life rapidly.
Why the 779.CL16 steps down brightness before the battery indicator triggers
The LED driver in the 779.CL16 uses brownout protection that responds to terminal voltage, not the battery indicator circuit. When cell voltage sags under high-current draw, the driver steps output down before the indicator registers low. This is deliberate — the driver protects the LED array from an undervoltage condition that would cause flickering. A fresh, fully charged 2700mAh pack holds terminal voltage higher for longer, pushing that step-down point later in the discharge cycle.
Torch cycling through modes or flickering at the end of a charge
Mode-cycling near end of charge is a driver brownout loop — voltage drops below the driver's regulation threshold, the driver cuts, voltage recovers slightly, the driver restarts, and the cycle repeats. This is not a torch fault. It means the pack is at or below the minimum operating voltage for the driver, typically around 5.4V on a 7.2V Ni-MH string. Switching to the lowest output mode at this point allows the driver to regulate within its range and extend usable output. Replace the pack when this cycling starts occurring well before the torch feels dim.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Facom 779.CL16 torch dims significantly even though the battery indicator still shows full — is the battery failing?
Not necessarily a fault — this is the LED driver's brownout protection stepping output down when terminal voltage sags under load, before the indicator circuit catches up. It happens earlier as the pack ages and internal resistance rises. Check the resting voltage after a full charge: a healthy 7.2V Ni-MH pack should sit at 8.4–8.6V open-circuit. If you're seeing below 7.8V after charge, the pack has degraded and needs replacing.
The 779.CL1 torch is draining the new battery much faster on its highest output setting compared to the lower modes — is something wrong?
Nothing is wrong — this is expected behaviour. High output on the 779.CL1 draws significantly more current than standard mode, often five to ten times as much, which compresses the usable discharge window even from a fresh 2700mAh pack. Ni-MH chemistry also delivers less effective capacity at high discharge rates due to internal resistance losses. If maximum output is not needed, running standard mode gives considerably more usable time per charge.
Can I install just one new cell inside the 779.CL16 battery pack to fix a weak cell instead of replacing the whole pack?
Do not mix one new cell with five old ones in a series string. The weaker aged cells will reach full discharge first — the new cell then continues to push current through them, driving them into reverse polarity. This permanently damages the reversed cell and can cause the pack to vent. Replace the entire six-cell string at once, sourcing all cells from the same batch to keep internal resistance matched across the string.
