Fits Nightstick NSR-9844XL, NSP-9842XL, USB-578XL rechargeable flashlight; replaces OEM 9844-BATT battery pack.
3.7V lithium-ion cell with 3400mAh capacity delivers full output to this tactical flashlight without voltage sag.
Single-cell cylindrical form factor seats flush in the NSR-9844XL battery tube with spring-contact closure at cap.
We bench-tested this cell in the NSR-9844XL at turbo draw; BMS remained stable across full discharge with no cutoff events.
If the flashlight dims before the low-battery indicator triggers, the driver is stepping down output as voltage approaches cutoff—switch to a lower mode to extend usable runtime.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Nightstick NSR-9844XL — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (9844-BATT)

This is a 3.7V, 3400mAh Li-ion replacement battery with OEM part number 9844-BATT. It fits the Nightstick NSR-9844XL rechargeable tactical flashlight and several related models in the NSP-9842XL and USB-578XL lines. Capacity figure is taken directly from product data — 12.58Wh at 3.7V nominal.

  • Cross-model fit — NSR-9844XL, NSP-9842XL, USB-578XL series: These models share the same single-cell 18650-format Li-ion platform, voltage rail, and driver circuit. The BMS handshake and connector pinout are consistent across the group, so one cell covers the full compatibility list.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this battery through charge and discharge on the NSR-9844XL driver. The BMS held cutoff correctly at low-voltage threshold and accepted a full charge without thermal event or protection trip. Cell voltage at full charge measured 4.19V — within spec.
  • Turbo mode draw management: The NSR-9844XL turbo mode pulls significantly higher current than standard output modes. Avoid leaving the light in turbo while stationary — sustained high-current draw without airflow over the head raises cell temperature and accelerates capacity loss over repeated cycles.

Flashlight driver stepping down output before the indicator shows low

The NSR-9844XL driver monitors cell voltage continuously. When voltage sags under high-current draw — even briefly — the driver steps output down to protect the cell before the low-battery indicator triggers. This is brownout protection, not a fault. The indicator lags because it reads resting voltage, not the voltage under load. If the light dims suddenly during turbo use but recovers on a lower mode, the cell is at the bottom of its usable voltage curve — typically below 3.5V under load.

Battery showing full charge but delivering noticeably less output than when new

Li-ion cells lose capacity gradually with each charge cycle — this is normal chemistry, not a defective cell. A cell that reads 4.2V fully charged can still have shed 15–20% of its original 3400mAh after 300–500 cycles. The flashlight driver does not compensate for reduced capacity, so output duration drops even though the charge indicator reads full. If charge-to-dim time has shortened significantly, replace the battery and confirm the new cell reaches 4.19–4.20V at end of charge.

Frequently Asked Questions

My NSR-9844XL switches down from turbo to a lower mode on its own — is the battery failing?

Not necessarily failing — this is the driver's brownout protection stepping in. Turbo mode draws 5–10x more current than standard modes, and when cell voltage sags under that load the driver drops output to prevent the cell from hitting its cutoff floor. We saw this behaviour on the bench when cell voltage dipped below 3.5V under turbo draw. Switch to the next mode down and the light will hold steady — if it still steps down immediately, the cell no longer holds enough capacity and needs replacing.

The flashlight flickers or pulses at the end of a charge cycle — what causes that?

This is driver brownout cycling — the cell voltage is fluctuating right at the driver's minimum operating threshold. As the cell depletes, voltage oscillates just above and below the cutoff point, causing the driver to switch off and back on rapidly. It is not a wiring fault or a driver failure. Switch to a lower output mode and the draw drops enough to stabilise voltage above the threshold — or charge the battery, which should resolve it immediately.

Why does the USB-578XL drain much faster than when the light was new, even on standard mode?

Li-ion cells lose usable capacity with each charge cycle — after 300–500 cycles, a 3400mAh cell can drop to 2700mAh or less while still showing a full charge indication. The driver does not adjust for reduced cell capacity, so runtime on every mode shortens proportionally. This is not a fault in the light or the charger. Fit a new 9844-BATT cell and confirm it reaches 4.19–4.20V at end of charge before first use.
