Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Hedge Trimmer ST6 — 7.2V Ni-MH Replacement Battery

This is a 7.2V 3600mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the ST6 cordless hedge trimmer. The ST6 runs on a proprietary battery platform, and this unit matches that voltage rail and form factor exactly. Capacity is rated at 25.92Wh.

  • ST6 compatibility: The ST6 hedge trimmer draws from a fixed 7.2V rail with a specific connector and BMS pairing — this battery matches that configuration without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran full charge/discharge cycles — the BMS held voltage under load across the cutting cycle and released cleanly at the low-voltage cutoff.
  • First-cycle conditioning for Ni-MH: Run the battery through two or three full charge and discharge cycles before expecting full capacity — Ni-MH cells need this to reach rated output.

Why Ni-MH suits a hedge trimmer like the ST6

Ni-MH cells tolerate the high-current bursts a hedge trimmer draws when blades hit thick stems. The chemistry is also more forgiving of partial charges than older Ni-Cd packs. At 3600mAh, this unit delivers more stored energy than the original factory rating on many ST6 variants. That headroom matters when cutting dense or mature hedgerow.

Battery not charging after storage — here is the cause and fix

Ni-MH cells that sit discharged for extended periods can drop below the threshold a charger will recognize, triggering a no-charge state. This is called voltage depression, not cell failure. Connect the battery and leave the charger running — many chargers will trickle charge below the detection threshold and recover the pack within a few hours. If the charger has a refresh or recovery mode, use it first.

Frequently Asked Questions

My ST6 hedge trimmer blade starts moving then slows to almost nothing after a few cuts — is the battery dying already?

That's voltage sag under load, and it's the most common early sign of a Ni-MH pack that either has shallow-cycle damage from the old battery or hasn't been properly conditioned on the new one. Ni-MH cells need two or three full discharge-and-charge cycles before they deliver stable output under cutting load. Run the trimmer until it stops completely, charge to full, and repeat that cycle twice before assuming the battery is faulty. If blade speed still drops heavily after conditioning, check that the pack is reading at or above 7.2V at rest with a multimeter — anything below 6.8V at rest points to a cell that didn't recover.

I left my ST6 sitting in the shed all winter and now the new battery won't charge — charger just does nothing.

Ni-MH packs that sit discharged for months can drop below the threshold a standard charger needs to detect a valid battery, so the charger sees nothing and refuses to start. This is a deep-discharge recovery situation, not a dead battery. Some chargers have a recovery or trickle mode — check the charger indicator light behavior, as a slow or alternating blink pattern on some units signals it's attempting a recovery charge rather than a full charge. If the charger shows no activity at all, try warming the battery to room temperature first, then connect it again and wait up to 15 minutes to see if the charge light changes state.

The ST6 trimmer feels weaker cutting thick stems than my old battery did — did I get a lower quality pack?

With Ni-MH at 7.2V, perceived power difference between a new and old pack often comes down to internal resistance, not capacity. A freshly manufactured cell actually has higher internal resistance until it's been cycled, which means it delivers less peak current to the motor on tough cuts early in its life. We see this consistently on the bench — output improves measurably after the first few full cycles. Cycle the battery completely two to three times before comparing performance, and if weakness persists on thick stems, check that the blade mechanism isn't dragging due to resin buildup, which will mask what is actually a normal battery.
