Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Adaptec BT74R / BT77 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (HXE-W01)

This is a 3.7V 1000mAh Li-ion cell for the Adaptec BT74R and BT77 portable GPS navigators. It replaces OEM part HXE-W01 and fits the same physical bay with the same connector. Voltage and capacity match the original spec exactly.

  • BT74R and BT77 compatibility: Both models share the HXE-W01 cell, the same 3.7V supply rail, and the same physical cavity at 52.96 × 33.64 × 5.15mm. The BMS handshake on each unit reads cell voltage directly — no proprietary authentication chip to negotiate.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on GPS-class hardware. The BMS accepted the cell without fault flags, held a stable voltage plateau through mid-discharge, and tripped the low-voltage cutoff at the correct threshold.
  • Cold-start recalibration after fitting: After installing this cell, power the unit on outdoors and let it acquire a full satellite fix before use. Full power removal forces a cold start — first fix can take 5–10 minutes while the GPS rebuilds its almanac. Subsequent warm starts drop back under a minute.

GPS accuracy reduced at low battery on the BT74R

As cell voltage drops below roughly 3.5V, some GPS units reduce receiver sensitivity to shed current draw. On the BT74R, this shows up as a wider position circle or intermittent satellite dropouts before the unit shuts off. The navigation display may still look normal while accuracy has already degraded. Keep the cell above 3.6V during active field use to hold full receiver performance.

BT74R shutting off without a low-battery warning

The battery indicator on the BT74R is calibrated against the original cell's discharge curve. A new cell with a slightly different internal resistance can hit the hardware voltage cutoff before the on-screen indicator reaches the low-battery icon. This is a gauge calibration mismatch, not a faulty cell. Run two or three full charge-discharge cycles and the indicator will re-align to the new cell's curve.

Frequently Asked Questions

My BT74R lost all my saved routes after swapping the battery — is that permanent?

Some GPS navigators store saved routes and POIs in battery-backed RAM rather than flash memory. When the cell is fully removed, that RAM loses power and the data is gone. Check the BT74R's settings menu for a "backup" or "export to SD card" option — use that before any future battery swap to preserve routes.

Satellite lock took over 8 minutes after I fitted the new battery — is something wrong with it?

Nothing is wrong. Full power removal wipes the GPS almanac stored in volatile memory, forcing a cold start. Cold starts on the BT74R can take 5–10 minutes outdoors with clear sky view while the receiver rebuilds satellite position data. Once that first fix completes, subsequent power cycles revert to warm-start lock times of under a minute.

Battery drains noticeably faster when I'm actively navigating versus just leaving the unit on standby — why?

Active navigation runs the GPS receiver continuously and keeps the display at full brightness, which together draw significantly more current than standby. The receiver alone accounts for the largest share of that load. Lower screen brightness to the minimum usable level during navigation — that single change reduces display draw and extends active use time more than any other setting on the BT74R.
