Arlo Pro / Pro 2 Series — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (A-1, 308-10029-01)

This 7.4V 2200mAh Li-ion battery replaces the original cell in the Arlo Pro and Pro 2 wireless security cameras. It fits VMC4030 and VMS3230 units as well as the broader Pro series. Swap it in when your original cell no longer holds charge or to rotate a spare into service.

  • Pro and Pro 2 compatibility: Both camera generations share the same battery bay dimensions, connector pinout, and 7.4V voltage rail. The BMS handshake is identical across VMC4030 and VMS3230 variants, so one cell covers the full lineup without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and discharge cycles on a Pro 2 unit. The BMS accepted the cell without fault flags, balanced both internal cells within two cycles, and protection circuits tripped correctly at the expected low-voltage cutoff threshold.
  • App registration after swap: On first install, power cycle the camera once through the Arlo app. The firmware must register the new cell before motion recording triggers log correctly to cloud storage — skipping this step can cause missed clip events even when the camera appears online.

When a new battery is seated, the camera's firmware session token can drop during the power interruption. The base station loses its registered link and the app shows the camera as offline even though the LED is solid. This is a firmware re-registration event, not a battery fault. Open the Arlo app, navigate to Device Settings, and use the Restart option to force the camera back onto the base station sync.

App reporting 0% or incorrect battery percentage after install

The Arlo Pro uses a voltage-threshold indicator — not a fuel gauge IC — to estimate charge level. If the cell ships at a partial state of charge, the firmware reads the resting voltage and may display 0% or an inaccurate figure until it sees a full charge cycle. Charge the camera to 100% via the Arlo charging cable, then let it discharge through normal use. After one complete cycle the percentage display will align with the actual cell voltage.

My Arlo Pro stops recording mid-clip even with a new battery — what's causing it?

Mid-clip dropout on the Arlo Pro is usually a WiFi reconnect current spike. When the signal drops momentarily, the radio ramps up transmit power to re-establish the link, and that combined draw with the processor can trip the BMS overcurrent threshold. Check your router signal strength at the camera location — if RSSI is below around -70 dBm, the radio is working hardest exactly when it needs to send footage. Move the base station closer or add a WiFi access point to reduce reconnect events.

My Arlo Pro's night vision cuts out or the camera sleeps partway through the night after a battery swap — is the cell draining too fast?

The IR LED array on the Arlo Pro draws a sustained current load that is higher than daytime standby. If the cell voltage sags under that load — common in a partially charged or recently installed cell — the BMS can trigger a low-voltage cutoff that looks like the camera sleeping. Charge the battery fully before the first overnight deployment and confirm the app shows 100% before mounting. If cutouts persist, check that the camera firmware is on the latest version, as older builds use a more aggressive low-voltage threshold that trips earlier in the discharge curve.

The Arlo Pro motion alerts stop firing after a few weeks on the new battery — recordings aren't triggering reliably anymore.

This is a known shallow-cycle degradation pattern on voltage-threshold cameras. If the battery is only partially discharged before recharging repeatedly, the firmware's voltage reference drifts and the camera starts under-reporting available capacity. The PIR and IR LED pulse needed for a motion trigger gets flagged internally as a low-battery condition and the camera suppresses recording to conserve power. Run the battery down to below 20% in the app reading, then charge fully to 100% — this recalibrates the voltage thresholds the firmware uses to gate motion trigger events.
