Fits Gardena R40, R50, R70, R80robotic mowers; replaces OEM part 586 57 62-02 and 589 58 61-01.
18.5V 2500mAh Li-ion cell delivers 46.25Wh; sufficient capacity for single-charge mowing cycles on standard residential lawn sizes.
Connector slides straight into the mower's battery slot with a positive-side locking tab; no force needed on insertion.
We bench-tested this cell in an R40 test unit; BMS accepted charge within two cycles and showed stable voltage regulation under blade motor load.
Before first use each spring, bring the battery indoors overnight if outdoor temperature is below 10°C — cold Li-ion raises internal resistance and blade motor inrush can trip the BMS cutoff on a chilled pack.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Gardena R40 / R80 Series — 18.5V Li-ion Replacement Battery (586 57 62-02)

This is an 18.5V 2500mAh Li-ion replacement battery for the Gardena robotic lawn mower range. It fits the R40, R50, R70, and R80 models, plus nine additional variants in the same family. Capacity is 46.25Wh — matching the original pack specification.

  • R40–R80 platform compatibility: These models share the same 18.5V battery rail, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol. A single cell configuration covers the full range without firmware or hardware modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through the R40 docking and charge cycle. The BMS accepted the charge handshake on first connection, balanced correctly across cells, and held voltage within spec at full load on the blade motor circuit.
  • Seasonal storage tip: Before the first mow of spring, bring the battery indoors overnight if temperatures are below 10°C. Cold Li-ion cells develop higher internal resistance, and the blade motor inrush current on a cold pack can trip the BMS before the mower cuts a single row.

Charger showing fault after the mower sat in the garage all winter

Li-ion cells self-discharge slowly during storage. Over a full winter, the pack can drop below the minimum acceptance voltage the Gardena charger checks before it starts a charge cycle. The charger reads this as a fault and refuses to initiate. Most packs in this state are not dead — they need a recovery charge at a lower threshold to bring cell voltage back into the acceptance window. If the charger LED cycles between green and red rather than going solid red, that confirms a low-voltage recovery situation rather than a failed cell.

Mower cuts out mid-row then resumes after a short pause

This is the BMS tripping on thermal protection, not a faulty battery. The blade motor draws a sustained high current through thick or wet grass, and cell temperature climbs until the BMS interrupts the circuit. The mower pauses, the pack cools, and the BMS resets automatically. If this happens repeatedly on a single mowing run, allow a five-minute cooldown before resuming and check that the blade is clean — a clogged or dull blade multiplies the current draw significantly.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Gardena R40 battery is reading lower capacity than the old one for the first few mows — is something wrong?

New Li-ion cells run slightly conservative for the first four to five charge cycles while the chemistry stabilises and the BMS recalibrates its state-of-charge estimate. The pack will also run slightly warmer than a well-used original during this period — that's normal cell conditioning, not a fault. Run three to five full charge-and-mow cycles before drawing any conclusions. Capacity figures should settle by cycle five.

The Gardena charger accepted the pack fine but now the mower stops on slopes or in longer grass — what's causing this?

Slopes and thick grass increase blade and drive motor current simultaneously, which causes voltage to sag under load. If the sag is deep enough, the BMS interprets it as a low-cell-voltage event and cuts the circuit as a protection measure. Check that the battery contacts on the mower are clean and making full contact — even a thin layer of oxidisation raises resistance and amplifies the sag. If the issue persists, run a full charge until the charger shows complete, then test on flat terrain first to confirm the pack is delivering its full rated 18.5V under normal load before tackling slopes.

My R80 won't start on a cold morning even though the battery shows fully charged — why?

Below 10°C, Li-ion cells lose a measurable portion of their usable capacity and internal resistance rises sharply. The R80 blade motor inrush current on startup can exceed what a cold pack can deliver without triggering the BMS undervoltage cutoff — even from a full state of charge. Bring the battery indoors for at least an hour before the first cold-morning mow. Once cell temperature is above 10°C, the pack will deliver its full 2500mAh without tripping on startup.
