Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

McCulloch LI58GB / LI58T / LI58CS — 58V Li-ion Replacement Battery (59-09.238.03)
This is a 58V, 3000mAh (174Wh) lithium-ion replacement battery for the McCulloch LI58GB, LI58T, and LI58CS cordless lawn mowers. It slots into the original battery bay and communicates with the mower's BMS over the same data lines as the factory pack. OEM part number 59-09.238.03.
- LI58 platform compatibility: The LI58GB, LI58T, and LI58CS share the same 58V battery rail, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol. One pack covers all three mowers without any adapter or modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through simulated blade-motor inrush loads on the LI58 platform. The BMS held the connection through repeated high-draw events and balanced cells correctly across all charge cycles.
- Seasonal storage tip: If the mower has sat unused through winter, bring the battery indoors overnight before the first spring cut. Li-ion cells below 10°C carry higher internal resistance, and the blade motor's inrush current can trip the BMS on a cold pack before the deck even begins to spin.
BMS cutoff on thick-grass or wet-grass blade load
The LI58 mower draws a sharp inrush current every time the blade motor bites into dense or wet grass. If the pack voltage sags below the BMS protection threshold during that inrush, the BMS trips and kills the deck instantly. This is a cell-health check, not a mower fault — a degraded original pack trips far earlier than a fresh one. A new pack at full charge holds well above the 48V cutoff floor the BMS monitors, so the deck stays running through the same grass conditions that stalled the old battery.
Charger showing a fault light after the mower sat through winter
A pack left in the garage from autumn to spring can self-discharge until individual cells drop below the charger's acceptance threshold — typically around 2.5V per cell. At that point the charger reads the pack as faulty and refuses to start a charge cycle. Some McCulloch chargers have a recovery or wake-up mode: leave the pack connected for 20–30 minutes and the charger may re-initiate once cells stabilise above the threshold. If the fault light persists after that window, the original pack has dropped too far to recover and replacement is the correct next step.

Frequently Asked Questions
My McCulloch LI58GB cuts out halfway across a thick patch of lawn, then starts again after a minute — what's happening?
That's thermal protection firing, not a battery fault. The blade motor pulls hard through dense grass, heats the pack, and the BMS disconnects at its thermal threshold to protect the cells. After a short cooldown the BMS resets and the mower runs again. Allow a 5-minute pause, then continue — if it trips repeatedly on normal grass, the pack's internal resistance has climbed too high and the cells need replacing.
The charger light goes straight to fault when I plug in the battery after winter storage — is the pack dead?
Not necessarily. Over winter, the pack may have self-discharged until one or more cells dropped below the charger's acceptance voltage. Leave the battery connected to the charger for 20–30 minutes without interrupting it — some McCulloch chargers will attempt a slow recovery pulse once cells begin to stabilise. If the fault light clears, let the full charge cycle complete before using the mower. If the light stays red after 30 minutes, the cells have dropped too low to recover and the pack needs replacing.
My new replacement battery feels noticeably warmer than the old one did during the first few cuts — should I be concerned?
No — this is normal cell conditioning. Fresh Li-ion cells run slightly warmer for the first four to five charge and discharge cycles while internal resistance stabilises. We saw the same behaviour on the bench during initial cycling of this pack on the LI58 platform. Temperature should drop to normal operating range by the fifth cycle; if the pack still feels hot after that point, stop use and check that the battery bay vents on the mower are clear of grass clippings.
