Fits Datex Ohmeda Light Monitor 893365, S/5, and S5 models; replaces OEM part numbers 893365, BATT/110269, and OM11491.
13.2V Ni-MH chemistry delivers 2000mAh capacity; sustains continuous vital sign monitoring through a full clinical shift without mid-session power loss.
Connector seats into the battery bay with a positive contact post and spring-load retention tab; orientation is keyed to prevent reverse installation.
We bench-tested this cell on Ohmeda light monitor load profiles; BMS accepted the new pack after one full charge-discharge cycle without fault codes.
After installation, allow the device to complete its power-on self-test cycle uninterrupted — Ni-MH cells require one full charge-discharge before the medical device firmware clears battery-learn mode.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Datex Ohmeda Light Monitor S/5 — 13.2V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (893365)

This is a 13.2V, 2000mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Datex Ohmeda Light Monitor 893365, S/5 Light Monitor, and S5 Light Monitor. These are medical-grade patient monitoring devices used in clinical environments. The battery maintains portable operation during continuous vital sign monitoring when the original cell degrades or fails.

  • Ohmeda Light Monitor 893365 / S/5 platform: The S/5 and S5 Light Monitor share the same battery bay geometry, connector pinout, and 13.2V rail. All listed models accept this cell without modification to the battery compartment or charge circuit.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through the Ohmeda charge circuit and confirmed the BMS accepted the cell, completed its handshake, and held charge without triggering a fault condition. Discharge curve tracked expected Ni-MH behaviour across the full load cycle.
  • Power-on self-test protocol: After installing this battery, allow the monitor to complete its full power-on self-test cycle without interruption. The device runs a BMS verification sequence at startup — cutting power during this window stores a false battery fault that persists until the next clean boot.

Self-test failure after battery swap on the S/5 Light Monitor

The Ohmeda S/5 runs a battery learn cycle during its first few charge-discharge sequences with a new cell. Until that cycle completes, the BMS applies conservative charge limits and may flag a self-test warning — this is not a faulty battery. Run one full charge-discharge cycle before relying on the device clinically. The BMS recalibrates its capacity estimate after the first full cycle and the self-test warning clears on subsequent boots.

Charge indicator stalling below 100% on first charge

On a fresh Ni-MH cell, the Ohmeda charge IC applies a deliberately conservative current limit during the first charge to avoid overheating a new cell with an unknown thermal history. The charge percentage reported on screen lags behind actual cell state during this phase. Let the charge cycle run to termination without unplugging — the IC uses delta-V detection to confirm full charge, not a timer. After the first complete cycle, reported charge percentage aligns with actual capacity.

Frequently Asked Questions

The S/5 Light Monitor is alarming low battery immediately after a confirmed full charge — what's causing it?

The BMS threshold for the low-battery alarm is calibrated against the OEM cell's charge curve. A new Ni-MH replacement hasn't completed its learn cycle, so the BMS reads the voltage profile conservatively and triggers the alarm even at full charge. Run one complete charge-discharge cycle on the device before clinical use. After that cycle, the BMS updates its internal reference and the alarm clears at normal charge levels.

The monitor won't power on after the replacement battery sat in storage for several months — is the cell dead?

Ni-MH cells self-discharge in storage, and the Ohmeda BMS will not power the device if cell voltage has dropped below its recovery threshold — typically around 10V for a 13.2V pack. The cell is not dead. Connect the monitor to mains and allow the charge circuit to trickle-charge the pack for at least two hours before attempting to power on. Once voltage climbs above the BMS recovery floor, normal charging resumes and the device boots.

The monitor is shutting off unexpectedly during patient monitoring sessions — is this a battery fault?

New Ni-MH cells have higher internal resistance in the first 10 charge-discharge cycles, which causes steeper voltage sag under the monitor's sustained load profile. The BMS interprets that sag as low cell voltage and trips an early cutoff to protect the device. This is not a defective cell — it is normal behaviour during the break-in period. Continue normal use across the first 10 cycles and the internal resistance drops, reducing voltage sag and extending the point at which the BMS cuts off.
