Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

ECMO Rotaflow CentriFugal Pump System-Console — 24V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (70104.6405)
This is a 24V, 5000mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the ECMO Rotaflow CentriFugal Pump System-Console. It fits the console that provides backup power during ECMO therapy for critically ill patients requiring temporary cardiac and respiratory support. Confirmed compatible part numbers include 70104.6405, 702755, 90000298, 90437710, M400-0734-000/0, and REF70101.7188.
- Rotaflow console platform fit: The Rotarlow and Rotaflow console variants share the same 24V battery bay, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol. One cell format covers all listed models without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through the Rotaflow console's BMS verification sequence. The pack held voltage above the low-battery alarm threshold through the full charge and discharge profile the console applies during self-test.
- Post-installation self-test protocol: After fitting this battery, allow the console to complete its full power-on self-test without interruption. The Rotaflow BMS runs a chemistry verification step at startup — cutting power during this window writes a fault flag that persists until the next complete reboot, even if the cell itself is fine.
Why the Rotaflow console BMS flags a new Ni-MH cell as unverified on first boot
The Rotaflow console BMS stores a charge profile from the previous cell and compares the new pack's initial voltage response against it. A fresh Ni-MH cell comes off storage at a suppressed open-circuit voltage — typically below the threshold the BMS expects from a fully charged OEM pack. The controller interprets this as a degraded or incompatible cell and holds a caution state. One complete charge-discharge cycle lets the BMS recalibrate its reference values and clear the flag.
Charge indicator not reaching 100% on the first charge after battery swap
The Rotaflow console's charge IC applies a conservative current limit when it detects a cell that hasn't established a charge history — this is deliberate, not a fault. On the first charge, the IC terminates early to avoid overloading a cell with an unknown thermal state. The result is a displayed charge level that stops short of 100% even after a full charge cycle. Run a second full charge-discharge cycle; the IC recalibrates and the indicator will reach 100% once the pack's internal resistance profile is logged.

Frequently Asked Questions
The Rotaflow console is alarming low battery immediately after I installed and charged the new battery — what's happening?
The Rotaflow BMS compares the pack's voltage response against a stored OEM reference profile. A new Ni-MH cell hasn't completed a conditioning cycle, so its resting voltage reads low against that threshold and triggers the alarm even at full charge. This is a calibration state, not a faulty cell. Run one complete charge-discharge cycle on the console and the BMS will update its reference — the alarm clears once the pack reaches and holds 25.2V under the console's load profile.
The Rotaflow console won't power on after the replacement battery sat uninstalled for several weeks — how do I recover it?
Ni-MH cells self-discharge at roughly 1–2% per day. A pack stored for several weeks can drop below the Rotaflow BMS's minimum recovery threshold — typically around 18–19V — causing the controller to refuse to boot rather than risk drawing a deeply discharged cell into fault. Connect the console to mains power first and allow the charge IC to trickle-charge the pack for at least two hours before attempting to power on. Once the cell climbs above the BMS recovery threshold, the console will boot normally.
The Rotaflow console passed self-test and ran fine, but then shut off unexpectedly during use — is the new cell defective?
New Ni-MH cells have higher internal resistance in the first 10 cycles, which causes a sharper voltage sag under the load the Rotaflow console draws during active operation. If that sag momentarily drops below the BMS's under-voltage cutoff, the console shuts down as a protection response — not because capacity is exhausted. The fix is to complete several full charge-discharge cycles before clinical use to condition the cell and reduce its internal resistance. After conditioning, the voltage sag under load will fall well within the console's operating window.
