Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Medela Freestyle Breast Pump — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (919.7010)
This 7.4V, 3400mAh Li-ion battery replaces part number 919.7010 in the Medela Freestyle Breast Pump. It restores cordless operation to the portable electric breast pump when the original cell has degraded or failed. Voltage and capacity match OEM spec exactly.
- Freestyle Pump compatibility: The Freestyle platform uses a fixed 7.4V two-cell Li-ion pack with a proprietary BMS handshake. Cells outside that voltage window or with the wrong connector pinout are rejected at startup. This pack matches both the physical connector and the communication protocol the pump's charge IC expects.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through the Freestyle's startup self-test and charge cycle. The BMS accepted the pack without fault codes, the charge IC climbed normally to full termination voltage, and the motor load profile drew current within expected range across the test cycle.
- Startup self-test — do not interrupt: After fitting this battery, let the Freestyle complete its full power-on sequence before pressing any other buttons. The pump runs a BMS verification routine at startup. Interrupting it — even briefly — can latch a false battery fault that won't clear until the next clean reboot.
Why the Freestyle rejects a new battery on first boot
The Freestyle's charge IC applies a conservative acceptance threshold based on OEM cell chemistry. A brand-new cell that hasn't completed its first full charge-discharge cycle can sit just below that threshold, causing the pump to flag the pack as unacceptable. This isn't a fault with the battery — it's the BMS running a verification it hasn't yet calibrated against the new cell's actual capacity curve. One full charge followed by a normal use session resolves it for all subsequent cycles.
Pump shuts off mid-session with no low-battery warning
In the first ten cycles, a new Li-ion cell responds to the Freestyle's motor load profile with slightly higher internal resistance than a broken-in cell. Under sustained pumping load, voltage can sag enough to trip the BMS undervoltage cutoff before the fuel gauge has flagged low battery to the display. The pump cuts power to protect the cell — it looks like a crash, but it's a protection event. Charge the pack fully and complete two or three more normal sessions; internal resistance drops as the cell breaks in, and sag-triggered cutoffs stop.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Freestyle is showing a low battery alarm right after I charged the new battery all night — is the battery dead already?
It isn't dead. On a new cell, the pump's BMS sets its low-battery threshold against OEM cell chemistry data it already has stored, and a fresh replacement hasn't yet completed the one full cycle needed to pass that calibration check. Run one complete charge from flat to full termination, then use the pump normally until it powers down on its own. After that first full cycle, the charge IC re-evaluates the cell and the false low-battery alarm stops. The pack should read correctly from the second charge onward.
The Freestyle won't turn on at all after the replacement battery sat in a drawer for a few months before I installed it — what happened?
Li-ion cells self-discharge in storage, and if the pack dropped below the BMS recovery threshold (typically around 2.5V per cell, or roughly 5.0V across a 7.4V two-cell pack), the BMS locks out the discharge path entirely as a protection measure. Connect the pump to mains power via the AC adapter and leave it charging for at least 60–90 minutes without pressing any buttons. The charge IC applies a low-rate recovery charge to bring the cell back above the unlock threshold, after which normal charging and startup resume. If the pump still doesn't respond after two hours on the adapter, disconnect and reconnect the charger to restart the charge IC negotiation cycle.
The charge indicator on my Freestyle has been stuck below 100% for hours — it's been plugged in since this morning and still won't show a full charge.
The Freestyle's charge IC applies a deliberately conservative current limit when it sees a new or unfamiliar cell, extending the time to reach full termination voltage well beyond what the original battery needed. This is normal first-charge behaviour, not a fault. Leave the pump connected to the AC adapter without interruption until the charge IC reaches full termination — on a new cell this can take noticeably longer than you'd expect. Once that first charge completes cleanly, subsequent charges return to the normal duration you're used to.
