Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Tektronix TPS2000B Series — 11.1V Li-ion Replacement Battery (NI2040)
This 11.1V, 7800mAh lithium-ion battery replaces the OEM pack in the Tektronix TPS2000B series portable digital oscilloscopes. It fits the TPS2012B, TPS2014B, TPS2024B, and related TPS2000B variants. Capacity and voltage match the original NI2040 specification exactly.
- TPS2000B series compatibility: All TPS2000B-series scopes share the same 11.1V three-cell Li-ion architecture, physical battery bay, and BMS communication protocol. One pack covers the full line because the charge IC and connector pinout are identical across TPS2012B, TPS2014B, and TPS2024B variants.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through charge and discharge on a TPS2014B. The BMS accepted the cell stack without fault codes, balanced across all three cells within the first full charge, and the scope reported battery status correctly throughout the test sequence.
- Power-on self-test after installation: After fitting this battery, let the TPS2000B complete its full startup self-test without interruption. The instrument runs a BMS verification pass at boot. Cutting power during this sequence logs a false battery fault that persists until the next complete reboot cycle.
Why the TPS2000B reports a battery fault after a fresh cell is installed
The TPS2000B charge IC applies conservative acceptance thresholds calibrated to a known OEM cell profile. A new third-party cell can present slightly different internal resistance and initial resting voltage, which the BMS flags as out-of-range on first contact. This is not a hardware fault — it clears after one full charge-discharge cycle as the BMS maps the actual cell characteristics. Run one complete charge to full, then discharge under normal scope use before trusting the battery status indicator for field work.
Charge indicator stalls below 100% on the first charge
On the first charge, the TPS2000B charge IC holds the cell at a reduced current ceiling until it confirms cell chemistry matches expected parameters. This causes the on-screen indicator to plateau at 90–95% and stop climbing. The cell is still taking charge — the IC is running a slow top-up verification pass, not stalling. Leave the scope on charge undisturbed; the indicator typically reaches 100% once internal resistance drops below the IC's acceptance threshold, usually after the resting voltage stabilises above 12.4V.

Frequently Asked Questions
My TPS2000B is showing a low battery alarm right after I fully charged the new pack — what's happening?
The TPS2000B BMS sets its low-battery alarm threshold against a stored OEM cell profile. A new replacement cell hasn't completed a learn cycle yet, so the BMS can misread state-of-charge on the first few uses and trigger the alarm even at high charge levels. This clears after one full charge-discharge cycle — discharge the scope normally under measurement load until it powers down, then charge back to 100% without interruption. After that cycle, the alarm threshold calibrates correctly to the new cell.
The TPS2000B won't power on at all after the replacement battery sat in the box for several months before installation.
Li-ion cells self-discharge during storage, and if the pack dropped below the BMS recovery threshold (typically around 9V for an 11.1V three-cell pack), the protection circuit opens and blocks output entirely. Connect the scope to mains AC power first — this bypasses the battery circuit and lets the charge IC push a trickle recovery current into the cells. Leave it on AC charge for at least two hours before attempting to run on battery power alone.
The TPS2000B cuts off mid-measurement unexpectedly — the battery showed over 50% charge before shutdown.
Portable oscilloscopes with active analog front-ends draw short high-current spikes during channel acquisition bursts. In the first 10 cycles, new Li-ion cells have higher internal resistance than a broken-in pack, which causes a sharper voltage sag under those load spikes. If the sag pulls the cell voltage below the BMS undervoltage cutoff — even briefly — the protection circuit trips and shuts the scope down. This behaviour reduces significantly after 8–10 full charge-discharge cycles as internal resistance drops; cycle the pack completely several times before relying on it for extended field measurements.
