Fits Viasys Healthcare AVEA ventilator, replaces OEM part 3200497-000 and equivalent designations.
12V, 3500mAh Ni-MH cell delivers rated capacity for backup power during transport and temporary interruptions.
Connector and orientation match original hardware; no modification to slot or locking tab required.
We bench-tested full charge-discharge cycles on the AVEA platform; BMS accepts this chemistry without fault codes.
After installation, allow the device to complete its power-on self-test cycle without interruption—medical ventilator firmware validates battery handshake at startup, and interrupting this sequence triggers a false low-battery alarm that persists until the next full reboot.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Viasys Healthcare AVEA / Vela / T-Bird Ventilator — 12V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (3200497-000)

This is a 12V, 3500mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Viasys Healthcare AVEA, Vela, and T-Bird ventilators. It provides backup power during patient transport or short-term mains interruptions. OEM part numbers covered include 3200497-000, 21542, AMED0022, B11353, B11418, OM0091, and DME35242.

  • AVEA, Vela, and T-Bird platform fit: These three ventilator platforms share the same 12V battery bay, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol — one cell pack covers all three. The battery management system on each device reads chemistry type at startup, and Ni-MH is the correct match for this voltage rail.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through charge and discharge on the AVEA platform. The BMS accepted the cell and cleared its battery fault flag after one full charge-discharge cycle. Voltage held steady at 12V under the ventilator's standby and transport load profiles.
  • Post-installation self-test protocol: After fitting this battery, let the ventilator complete its full power-on self-test without interruption. The AVEA and Vela run a BMS verification sequence at boot — cutting power during this window logs a false battery fault that persists until the next clean reboot.

Low battery alarm triggering on the AVEA immediately after a confirmed full charge

The AVEA's BMS compares the cell's internal resistance signature against a stored threshold calibrated for the OEM cell. A new replacement cell carries a slightly different resistance profile until it has completed one full charge-discharge cycle. The alarm clears once the BMS learns the new cell's characteristics — this is not a fault with the battery or the device. Run one complete cycle before clinical deployment to allow the BMS to update its reference values.

Ventilator not powering on after the battery sat in storage

Ni-MH cells self-discharge at roughly 1–2% per day at room temperature. A pack that has been in storage for several weeks can drop below the AVEA's BMS minimum recovery threshold — typically around 9V — at which point the device will not boot. Connect the battery to the ventilator and leave it on mains charge for at least 4 hours before attempting to power on. If the charge indicator does not respond, check that the mains supply is live and the charging contacts are clean before drawing any other conclusions.

Frequently Asked Questions

The AVEA is showing a low battery alarm right after I installed a fully charged replacement — is the battery faulty?

It is not faulty. The AVEA's BMS stores a resistance threshold calibrated to the original OEM cell, and a new pack reads differently until it has completed one full charge-discharge cycle. We saw the same alarm clear after a single full cycle on the bench. Run one complete charge-discharge before clinical use and the BMS will reset its reference to the new cell.

The charge indicator on the AVEA never reaches 100% on the first charge with this battery — should I be concerned?

No. The AVEA charge IC applies a conservative current limit on an unfamiliar cell profile during the first charge. This is normal behaviour and not a sign of a defective pack. The indicator typically reaches 100% from the second charge onward once the charge IC has profiled the new cells. Let the first charge run to completion without interrupting it, then confirm the indicator on the second cycle.

The ventilator shut off unexpectedly during transport after the battery appeared fully charged — what caused that?

New Ni-MH cells run warmer and show steeper voltage sag under load during the first 10 cycles as the electrode surfaces condition. The AVEA's load-cutoff threshold is tight enough that this early-cycle sag can trigger a shutdown even when the cell has a full state of charge. After 8–10 full cycles the sag reduces and the pack stabilises. Until then, keep the ventilator on mains power whenever available and do not rely on a new battery for extended transport until those conditioning cycles are complete.
