Fits Motorola RAZR2, V8, V9, V9m and 17+ flip phone models; replaces OEM battery BX40, BX50, SNN5805, SNN5805A, FNN7012AA, SNN5807, SNN5807A.
Delivers 3.7V at 720mAh capacity — adequate for a full day on the RAZR2 if the phone stays in standby mode between calls.
Connector slides into the battery slot on the RAZR2 chassis; no locking tab — insert flat and push until seated flush against the rear cover.
We tested this cell on a RAZR2 bench unit; the BMS accepted the charge curve over one full cycle without cutoff or thermal throttle.
On first use, run one complete discharge-charge cycle without opening the flip — the fuel gauge IC recalibrates to this cell's discharge curve and prevents percentage jump errors.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Motorola RAZR2 / V8 / V9 Series — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (BX40)

This is a 3.7V, 720mAh Li-ion replacement cell for the Motorola RAZR2, V8, V9, and V9m flip phones. It replaces OEM part numbers BX40, BX50, SNN5805, SNN5805A, FNN7012AA, SNN5807, and SNN5807A. If your original cell no longer holds a charge through a normal day of calls and standby, this is a direct swap.

  • RAZR2 / V8 / V9 platform fit: These models share the same 3.7V single-cell architecture, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol — which is why one cell covers the full lineup. Swapping between models in this family does not require a different part.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through the RAZR2 charge IC and confirmed the BMS communication handshake completed without fault flags. Charge acceptance was clean from 3.0V up to the 4.2V cutoff with no mid-cycle interruptions.
  • Fuel gauge recalibration on first cycle: On first use after installation, run one full discharge down to automatic shutdown, then charge uninterrupted to 100% without using fast-charge modes. This gives the fuel gauge IC a clean reference curve against the new cell before the OS begins reporting percentages.

Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the RAZR2 after a cell swap

The RAZR2's fuel gauge IC was calibrated to the discharge curve of the original, degraded cell. When a new cell with a different internal impedance goes in, the IC misreads the voltage-to-capacity relationship at the low end of the curve. The phone sees what it thinks is 25% remaining, but when the modem fires up for a call, voltage sags below the cutoff threshold and the device shuts off. One full discharge-charge cycle resets the coulomb counter and eliminates this behaviour.

Phone warm near the battery slot during the first few charges

A new Li-ion cell has higher internal impedance than a mid-life cell. On the first one or two charge cycles, the RAZR2's charge IC pushes current into higher resistance, which generates slightly more heat than normal. This is not a fault — it resolves as the cell completes its first few cycles and impedance settles. If the back cover feels hot rather than warm, or if the phone is inside a case during charging, remove the case and let it charge in open air.

Frequently Asked Questions

My RAZR2 shuts off mid-call even though the screen still shows 25% battery — is the new cell faulty?

The cell is not faulty. The fuel gauge IC stored a discharge curve from your old, degraded battery and is applying it to the new cell — so the percentage shown is wrong at the low end. When the modem draws current during a call, the actual cell voltage drops below the shutdown threshold even though the display hasn't reached 0%. Run one complete discharge to automatic shutdown followed by a full uninterrupted charge to 100% and the IC will recalibrate.

After fitting the BX40 replacement, the battery percentage on my V9 jumps around erratically — sometimes going up while the phone is in use.

This is the coulomb counter recalibrating against an unfamiliar cell. The V9's fuel gauge IC tracks charge and discharge in increments; with a new cell it has no baseline, so early readings are unstable. Erratic jumps — including brief upward ticks under light load — are normal for the first cycle. Complete one full discharge-to-shutdown followed by a full charge without interruption and the percentage reporting will stabilise.

The phone won't power on at all after the replacement battery sat in a drawer for a few months before I installed it.

Li-ion cells self-discharge in storage. If the BX40 dropped below approximately 2.5V while sitting unused, the BMS entered a lockout state to prevent damage and will not pass current to the phone. Connect the charger and leave it undisturbed for at least 30–60 minutes — the charge IC on the RAZR2 supplies a low trickle current that slowly brings the cell back above the BMS recovery threshold. Once voltage crosses roughly 3.0V, the BMS releases and the phone will power on normally.
