Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

UMX MXC-550 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (AB043446LA)

This 3.7V, 750mAh Li-ion battery replaces the AB043446LA cell in the UMX MXC-550 mobile phone. It fits the original battery bay and connector without modification. Voltage and capacity match the factory specification exactly.

  • MXC-550 fit: The MXC-550 uses a single-cell Li-ion pack with a compact footprint — 49.53 × 33.73 × 7.29mm. The AB043446LA part number is the only cell that clears the battery bay depth and mates with the phone's three-pin connector without forcing the back cover.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through full charge and discharge on the MXC-550 platform. The BMS accepted charge handshake on first connection, reached 4.2V at full charge, and held the low-voltage cutoff at 3.0V without triggering premature shutdown under screen and modem load.
  • Fuel gauge recalibration after install: On first use, disable any fast-charge accessory and run one complete discharge-to-charge cycle at standard current. This gives the fuel gauge IC time to map the new cell's discharge curve before high-current charging pushes current into an uncalibrated state.

Why the MXC-550 reports wrong battery percentage after a cell swap

The MXC-550 uses a fuel gauge IC that tracks charge state by learning the cell's discharge curve over repeated cycles. When a new cell goes in, the IC is still calibrated to the old, degraded cell — so its percentage readings are inaccurate from the start. The phone may show 40% remaining and cut off moments later, or sit at 100% far longer than expected. One full discharge down to auto-shutdown followed by a complete charge resets the coulomb counter and brings percentage reporting back in line.

Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the replacement cell

This happens when the modem or display draws a brief high-current spike and the cell voltage dips below the BMS cutoff threshold — even though the fuel gauge still shows charge remaining. It is a calibration gap, not a defective cell. The fuel gauge IC has not yet learned the new cell's voltage cliff. Run two full discharge-charge cycles at standard current, and the shutdowns should stop. If the phone still cuts out after two cycles, check that resting cell voltage reads at least 3.7V with a multimeter before reinstalling.

Frequently Asked Questions

The MXC-550 shows 100% right after I put in the new battery — is the percentage reading accurate?

No — not on the first cycle. The fuel gauge IC on the MXC-550 is still calibrated to the old cell's discharge curve, so it misreads the new cell's state of charge immediately after a swap. Run one complete discharge down to auto-shutdown, then charge uninterrupted to full. After that cycle, the coulomb counter recalibrates and percentage reporting becomes accurate.

The phone gets noticeably warm near the battery compartment during the first few charges — is that normal?

Yes, on the first one or two charge cycles. A fresh Li-ion cell has slightly higher internal impedance than a broken-in cell, so the charge IC dissipates more heat as it pushes current in. The warmth should drop off after the cell has been through two full cycles. If the back cover stays hot to the touch beyond the second cycle, check that you are using the original charger and not a high-current USB adapter exceeding the phone's rated input.

The MXC-550 won't turn on at all after the replacement battery sat in a drawer for a few months — what happened?

The cell discharged below the BMS lockout threshold, which is typically 2.5V per cell. Once voltage drops that low, the BMS cuts off output entirely to prevent damage, and the phone will not respond to the power button. Connect the phone to its original charger and leave it for 20–30 minutes without pressing anything — the charge IC will trickle current into the cell until voltage climbs back above the BMS re-enable threshold, usually around 3.0V, at which point the phone will begin a normal charge cycle.
