Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Dell Alienware X14 R1 / R2 — 11.4V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (V4N84 / VG661)

This is an 11.4V, 7050mAh (80.37Wh) Li-Polymer battery for the Dell Alienware X14 R1 and X14 R2 gaming laptops. It replaces OEM part numbers V4N84 and VG661. Swap it in when the original cell no longer holds charge through a full gaming or productivity session.

  • Alienware X14 R1 and R2 compatibility: Both generations share the same 11.4V three-cell Li-Polymer configuration, identical connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol — one battery fits both chassis without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through full charge and discharge cycles on the X14 platform. The BMS communicated correctly with the EC, charge current tapered at capacity, and no over-voltage or thermal fault codes were triggered.
  • Post-install calibration on the Alienware X14: After fitting this battery, run one full discharge to hibernate cutoff, then charge uninterrupted to 100%. This resets the BIOS battery learn cycle and clears the inaccurate health warning the EC flags after every cell swap.

BIOS reporting poor battery health immediately after replacement

Dell's embedded controller reads health data stored in the old cell's EEPROM and compares it against the new cell's initial readings. The mismatch triggers a poor health flag — this is an EC calibration issue, not a fault with the replacement cell. Run the battery down to hibernate cutoff under normal load, then charge to 100% without interruption. After one or two full cycles, the EC rewrites its reference data and the health warning clears.

Alienware X14 shutting down at 20–30% charge shown on screen

Under full CPU and GPU load, the X14 draws sustained current that the fuel gauge IC cannot accurately predict from a freshly installed cell. The cell hits a voltage cliff before the displayed percentage reaches zero, and the EC cuts power to protect the system. The fuel gauge IC needs two to three calibration cycles against the new cell's actual discharge curve before the percentage readout becomes accurate. Force a full discharge to hibernate on battery power each time until the shutdowns stop occurring above 15%.

Frequently Asked Questions

Dell Command says my new Alienware X14 battery is in "poor health" straight out of the box — is it faulty?

It's not a faulty cell. Dell's embedded controller carries EEPROM data from the old battery and flags a mismatch when it reads the new cell for the first time. Run one full discharge to hibernate cutoff under normal use, then charge uninterrupted to 100%. After one or two cycles the EC rewrites its reference values and the warning clears.

Windows is showing a completely different Wh rating for this battery than the original — why doesn't it match?

The Wh figure Windows reports is pulled from the EEPROM on the cell itself, which stores the rated chemistry value set at manufacture. Our replacement cell is rated at 80.37Wh; if your previous battery had degraded below that, the figure will look higher than what you were used to seeing. That's the correct rated capacity — cross-check it against the 80.37Wh spec on this listing to confirm the cell is reporting accurately.

My Alienware X14 charges to exactly 80% and stops — is the battery defective?

This is a BIOS-controlled charge limit, not a cell fault. Dell's firmware ships with an 80% charge cap enabled by default to reduce long-term cell stress during periods of constant AC use. Open Dell Command | Power Manager, navigate to Battery Settings, and switch the charge mode from "Primarily AC" or "Custom" to "Adaptive" or "Standard" — the battery will then charge to 100%.
