BIOS reporting battery health as poor immediately after replacement

The LOOX T-series BIOS stores charge history and health metrics in the original cell's EEPROM. When a new cell goes in, the BIOS compares live readings against the old EEPROM baseline and flags a mismatch as poor health. The battery itself is not faulty — the firmware simply hasn't learned the new cell's characteristics yet. Run one full discharge-to-hibernate cycle followed by a full uninterrupted charge. After two to three cycles, the BIOS health status recalibrates and the warning clears.

Laptop shuts down at 20–30% charge shown on the gauge

This happens when the fuel gauge IC is still calibrated to the old, degraded cell. The old cell had a steep voltage cliff at low state-of-charge — the gauge learned to shut down early to protect it. The new cell holds voltage further into its discharge curve, but the IC doesn't know that yet. Force a full discharge to the hibernate cutoff, let the system sit for two minutes, then charge continuously to 100% — this recalibrates the fuel gauge IC against the new cell's actual voltage profile.

The LOOX T50E shows the new battery as "0%" or "unknown" and won't start charging — what's happening?

The fuel gauge IC lost its reference point when the old cell was removed. It can't identify state-of-charge on a new cell until it has a baseline. Connect the charger and leave it connected for at least 30 minutes without pressing the power button — the BMS needs time to pre-charge the cell to a voltage the IC recognises before normal charge current begins. Once voltage crosses approximately 10.0V, the gauge initialises and charging proceeds normally.

System info shows the wrong Wh rating — it's displaying a different value than 47.52Wh after the swap. Is the battery defective?

No. The Wh figure shown in system info is read from the EEPROM data stored on the original cell, not measured from the new one. The old cell's EEPROM wrote its rated Wh into the BIOS log, and that value persists until the learn cycle overwrites it. Run two full discharge-to-hibernate and charge-to-100% cycles — after the second cycle the BIOS updates the stored Wh value to match the new cell's actual rated capacity of 47.52Wh.

The LOOX T50E charge stops at around 80% and won't go higher — is this a fault with the replacement cell?

Check the BIOS power settings first. Fujitsu's LOOX T-series includes a BIOS-controlled charge limit that caps charging at 80% to reduce cell stress during long periods on AC power. This is a firmware setting, not a battery fault. Enter the BIOS at startup, navigate to the Power menu, and set the charge mode to "Full Charge" — the battery will then charge to 100%.
