Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Gericom N243 / N244 Series — 14.8V Li-ion Replacement Battery (23-U74201-31)
This is a 14.8V, 4400mAh (65.12Wh) lithium-ion battery for the Gericom N243 and N244 series laptops. It replaces OEM part numbers 23-U74201-31, 23-U74204-00, 23-UD3202-00, and the full BAT-243S1 / UN243 family. Four cells in series deliver the 14.8V nominal rail the system board expects.
- N243 and N244 series fit: Both series share the same 14.8V four-cell configuration, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol — which is why a single part number covers the entire range. Swapping between these models does not require any hardware modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and discharge cycles on the N243 platform. The BMS communicated correctly with the system board, charge acceptance reached full capacity, and protection circuits triggered normally at low-voltage cutoff.
- Post-install calibration on the N243: After fitting this battery, run the laptop on battery power until it hibernates from low charge, then charge uninterrupted to 100% without interruption. This forces the BIOS to complete its battery learn cycle and clears the inaccurate health warning that appears after every cell swap.
BIOS reporting poor battery health immediately after fitting a new cell
The N243 BIOS reads health data stored in the battery's EEPROM, not the live cell voltage. When a new cell arrives, that EEPROM contains factory default values that the BIOS interprets as degraded. The fix is not a hardware change — it is a calibration cycle. Discharge fully to hibernate cutoff, charge to 100%, and the BIOS rewrites its health baseline against the new cell data. After one complete cycle the health warning clears.
Laptop shuts down abruptly at 20–30% charge shown on screen
This happens when the cell voltage drops below the BMS cutoff threshold under full CPU and display load, even though the fuel gauge still shows charge remaining. The fuel gauge IC was calibrated against the old, degraded cell — its discharge curve no longer matches the new cell's chemistry. The gauge reads artificially high right up to the voltage cliff, then the BMS cuts power instantly. Run two full discharge-to-hibernate and uninterrupted charge-to-100% cycles to let the fuel gauge IC re-map the new cell's curve. After calibration, the displayed percentage should track actual cell voltage accurately down to the 5–7V cutoff range.

Frequently Asked Questions
The Gericom N243 shows the battery as 0% or "unknown" straight after I put in the new battery — is it faulty?
It is not faulty. The EEPROM on the new cell carries factory defaults that the BIOS cannot yet interpret as valid charge data. The system reports 0% or unknown until it completes a learn cycle. Discharge the laptop fully until it hibernates, then charge uninterrupted to 100% — the BIOS rewrites its battery baseline and the gauge reads correctly from that point.
Windows is showing the wrong Wh rating for this battery in the power report — it says something much lower than 65.12Wh.
The Wh figure Windows pulls comes from the EEPROM design-capacity register, not a live measurement. On a new cell, that register may carry a conservative factory value until the BIOS recalculates it against actual charge throughput. Run one full calibration cycle — full discharge to hibernate, then a complete uninterrupted charge to 100%. After that cycle the reported Wh figure should align with the 65.12Wh rated capacity.
The N243 battery stops charging at around 80% and will not go higher — what is causing that?
Some N243 BIOS versions ship with a charge-limit setting active, capping charge at 80% to reduce cell stress during AC-connected use. This is a firmware control, not a battery fault. Go into the BIOS power settings or any Gericom battery utility installed in Windows and check for a charge threshold or battery care option. Disable it or set the upper limit to 100%, then reconnect the charger — charge should proceed to full.
