This 15.48V, 3250mAh (50.31Wh) Li-Polymer cell replaces the original battery in the Lenovo ThinkPad P16s Gen 1 (Intel and AMD) and ThinkPad T16 Gen 2 (AMD) series, along with 119 additional verified models. It uses OEM part numbers 5B10W51869, L21M4P73, and SB10W51970. Voltage and connector pinout match the factory spec exactly.
- ThinkPad P16s and T16 Gen 2 platform fit: These models share a common 15.48V four-cell Li-Polymer architecture with the same BMS handshake protocol and SmartBattery connector. One cell covers both the Intel and AMD board variants without any firmware conflict.

The laptop interprets a moderate draw spike from the CPU or dGPU as an imminent collapse and triggers an emergency shutdown. Running two or three full discharge-to-hibernate cycles forces the fuel gauge IC to rebuild its internal model against the new cell's actual chemistry. After calibration, the reported percentage and the real cutoff point realign.
BIOS reporting battery health as "Poor" or "Replace Soon" on a brand-new cell
The ThinkPad BIOS reads health status from EEPROM registers that carry over cycle count and wear data from the old cell's embedded controller — not from the physical chemistry of the new one. A fresh cell installed without a learn cycle will inherit the previous battery's degraded health tag. My ThinkPad T16 Gen 2 shows the new battery as 0% or "Unknown" in Windows — is the cell dead on arrival?
It is not dead. The Windows fuel gauge IC has not yet mapped the new cell's discharge curve, so it reads the EEPROM state from the old battery and reports zero or unknown. Plug in the charger, let it charge uninterrupted to 100%, then discharge fully to hibernate-cutoff. After that first complete cycle the fuel gauge IC resets its internal model and the percentage reads accurately.
The replacement battery shows 46Wh in Lenovo Vantage but the spec says 50.31Wh — is this the wrong cell?
The Wh figure in Vantage pulls from the EEPROM rated value written to the battery's embedded controller, which can differ from the actual measured capacity of the new cell chemistry. The physical cell is correct — voltage, connector, and BMS handshake all match the P16s and T16 Gen 2 platform spec. Run the BIOS battery learn cycle once: discharge fully to hibernate, then charge uninterrupted to 100%. The reported Wh figure updates to match the actual cell after the learn cycle completes.
Charging stopped at 80% and won't go higher — did something go wrong during installation?
Nothing went wrong. Lenovo ships the ThinkPad P16s and T16 Gen 2 with a BIOS-controlled charge threshold that caps charging at 80% by default to reduce long-term wear on cells that stay plugged in. This is firmware behaviour, not a fault with the replacement cell. Open Lenovo Vantage, go to Power → Battery Settings, and set the charge threshold to 100% — charging will resume to full on the next cycle.
