Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

HP Jornada 820 / 928 — 3.7V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (F2937A)

This 3.7V, 950mAh Li-Polymer cell replaces the original F2937A battery in the HP Jornada 820 and Jornada 928 handheld computers. Both devices share the same battery bay, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol. Capacity figure is 950mAh (3.52Wh) — taken from the product specification, not estimated.

  • Jornada 820 and 928 compatibility: HP used the same battery compartment and three-pin connector across both Jornada models. The BMS in each unit reads cell voltage and temperature from the same pin arrangement, so one replacement cell covers both handhelds without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on a Jornada 820 unit. The BMS accepted the cell without fault flags, voltage held steady across the operating range, and the charge controller terminated correctly at capacity.
  • Sync before you swap: The Jornada 820 holds open files, calendar data, and application state in volatile SRAM powered directly by the main battery. Pull the battery without syncing to ActiveSync first and that data is gone. Run a full sync to your host PC before removing the old cell.

Why the Jornada 820 won't complete its boot sequence after a battery swap

The Jornada 820 boot ROM checks cell voltage before loading Windows CE. If the replacement battery ships at a low state of charge — common with Li-Polymer cells stored for months — the voltage can sit below the threshold the boot ROM expects. The device powers on briefly, shows the HP splash screen, then cuts out before the OS loads. Charge the new cell fully before the first boot attempt. Connect to the AC adapter, wait until the charge LED clears, then power on.

Jornada 820 showing full charge but losing power faster than the original battery

An original battery that has been through years of shallow cycles can have a recalibrated fuel gauge — the device learned a smaller capacity and reads "full" at a lower actual charge. After fitting the new 950mAh cell, the gauge may under-report for the first few cycles until the Jornada recalibrates. Run two or three full charge-to-low-battery cycles to let the fuel gauge re-learn the cell's actual capacity. After recalibration, the charge indicator should track accurately from 4.2V down to the 3.0V cutoff.

Frequently Asked Questions

I lost all my contacts and calendar entries after swapping the Jornada 820 battery — is that normal?

Yes, and it is a hardware limitation, not a fault with the replacement cell. The Jornada 820 stores contacts, calendar data, and open application state in SRAM, which is powered directly by the main battery. The moment the old battery is removed and before the new one is seated, that RAM loses power and the contents are erased. Before any future battery swap, run a full ActiveSync session to your host PC to push all data to the desktop database.

My Jornada 820 boots up but drops the wireless sync connection within a minute or two after fitting the new battery — what is going on?

The Jornada's wireless card draws a sharp current spike when transmitting, and if the new battery was not fully charged before first use, voltage sags under that load and the radio resets. Charge the cell completely before attempting any wireless sync — the charge LED on the cradle or AC adapter should confirm a full charge before you start. Once the cell is at 4.2V, the voltage under radio load stays within the range the wireless stack needs to hold a connection.

The Jornada 928 feels warm near the battery compartment during charging — should I be concerned?

Mild warmth during charging is normal for Li-Polymer cells — the charge controller in the Jornada 928 runs a constant-current phase that generates some heat. If the case is hot to the touch or the device shuts down mid-charge, that points to the charge controller pushing too high a current, often caused by a third-party AC adapter supplying the wrong input voltage. Use the original HP AC adapter or a verified replacement rated for the Jornada's input spec, and confirm the adapter output matches before charging again.
