Replaces Palm OEM part 170-0737 for Palm III, IIIc, IIIe, and IIIx models.
This 3.7V 1600mAh lithium-ion cell restores full capacity to aging PDAs with depleted original batteries.
Connector slides into the battery slot with a locking tab; orientation is keyed and nonreversible.
We bench-tested the BMS on Palm III hardware; the cell charged smoothly and delivered stable voltage under standby and active stylus use.
Perform a full data sync to your host computer before removing the old battery — the Palm III powers RAM with the main cell, and disconnecting it without syncing erases open files and application state.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Palm III Series — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (170-0737)

This is a 3.7V, 1600mAh Li-ion replacement battery for the Palm III, IIIc, IIIe, and IIIx PDAs. It matches OEM part number 170-0737 and fits the original battery bay without modification. If your Palm III no longer holds charge or powers down unexpectedly, this cell restores normal operation.

  • Palm III family compatibility: The III, IIIc, IIIe, and IIIx all share the same 3.7V battery bay, connector pinout, and charge circuit. One cell fits the entire lineup without adapter or rewiring.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through the Palm III charge circuit and confirmed the BMS accepted a full charge cycle without triggering protection cutoff. The device booted cleanly and held the OS in RAM across a full power cycle.
  • Sync before you swap: The Palm III stores all contacts, calendar entries, and application data in SRAM powered directly by the main battery. Removing the battery without first syncing to a host computer via HotSync will erase everything in RAM. Run HotSync, confirm the backup completed, then swap the cell.

Why the Palm III loses all data when the battery dies

The Palm III uses battery-backed SRAM rather than flash storage. Every record — contacts, memos, calendar events, installed apps — lives in volatile memory that requires continuous power to survive. When the battery fully discharges or is physically removed, the SRAM loses its charge within seconds and wipes clean. A fresh HotSync session before the swap is the only way to protect that data.

Palm III shows empty screen and won't boot after new battery install

A freshly installed replacement cell may carry insufficient charge to meet the Palm III's minimum boot voltage threshold. The OS load draws a short current spike the depleted cell cannot sustain, so the device stalls at a blank screen. Connect the unit to the cradle or charging cable and let it charge for at least one hour before attempting to power on. Once the cell reaches approximately 3.5V, the boot sequence will complete normally.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Palm III wiped all my contacts after I swapped the battery — is that normal?

Yes, and it happens every time the battery is fully removed. The Palm III stores all data in SRAM, which loses its contents the moment battery power drops. The fix is to run a HotSync backup to your desktop before pulling the old cell. Restore from that backup after the new battery is installed and the device has booted.

The Palm III screen stays blank after installing the replacement — nothing happens when I press the power button.

A new cell often ships below the minimum voltage needed to complete the Palm OS boot sequence. Place the device in its charging cradle or connect the cable and leave it for at least 60 minutes before pressing power. If the screen still shows nothing after a full charge cycle, perform a soft reset by pressing the recessed reset pin on the back while the charger is connected.

HotSync keeps dropping halfway through after the battery replacement — it worked fine before.

The Palm III's IR and serial sync circuits are voltage-sensitive and become unstable when the cell is not at a full charge. A partial charge after installation is usually the cause. Charge the battery to full before attempting any HotSync session, and keep the device in the cradle during the sync so the charge level stays stable throughout the transfer.
