Treo 850 stuck on boot loop or black screen after new battery installed

The Treo 850w shows a charging indicator but the battery percentage won't climb past 1% — what's wrong?
This usually means the cell discharged below the BMS recovery threshold and the charger is in trickle/pre-charge mode trying to bring the voltage back up to a level where normal charge can begin. It can take 20–40 minutes before the percentage moves. Leave the device connected to a wall charger — not a USB port — and do not interrupt the charge.
