Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Yaskawa 2LS17500-TOY / K-24 ER17/50 — 3.6V Li-SOCl2 Replacement Battery
This 3.6V, 3500mAh lithium thionyl chloride cell replaces the backup battery in Yaskawa automation controllers using the 2LS17500-TOY or K-24 ER17/50 cell. It maintains SRAM program memory and real-time clock function during mains power loss. Dimensions are 52.10 × 34.00 × 17.20mm — verify physical fit before installing.
- 2LS17500-TOY and K-24 ER17/50 compatibility: Both designations reference the same ER17/50 cell format used across Yaskawa PLC backup circuits. The voltage rail, pin-out, and connector footprint are identical, so one cell covers both part numbers without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell against the PLC backup circuit and confirmed stable float voltage at the SRAM retention threshold. The cell held load without voltage sag during simulated mains dropout events across multiple cycles.
- Hot-swap protocol for this controller: Always replace this battery with the PLC powered on and in RUN mode. Removing the cell while the controller is powered off will erase SRAM contents — program memory and RTC data are lost instantly and must be reloaded from the programming device.
Why a Yaskawa PLC loses program memory during battery swap
SRAM in these controllers has no secondary capacitor buffer to bridge a swap. The moment the old cell is disconnected with the PLC powered off, SRAM loses its retention voltage and all stored data clears. Hot-swapping with the controller live keeps the SRAM supply uninterrupted. If memory loss has already occurred, reconnect the programming device and reload the last confirmed backup before attempting to run the machine.
Battery alarm not clearing after a confirmed good cell is installed
Yaskawa controllers latch the low-battery alarm flag in software — a new cell does not automatically clear it. The alarm must be reset manually through the programming software or HMI after the replacement is complete. A new Li-SOCl2 cell also ships at storage voltage, typically 3.4–3.5V, and rises to its nominal 3.6V after a few hours on the PLC float circuit. Check the alarm again after four hours; if it persists, navigate to the battery status register in the programming software and clear the fault flag manually.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Yaskawa PLC came back up after a power cut but the program is gone — the battery was just replaced. What happened?
The cell was almost certainly removed while the controller was powered off. Li-SOCl2 cells in this circuit provide the only retention voltage for SRAM — there is no capacitor buffer to hold data through the swap. With the supply interrupted, SRAM cleared immediately. Reload the program from your last saved backup via the programming device, then confirm the replacement cell reads at or above 3.5V on the backup circuit.
The real-time clock on the PLC is showing the wrong date and time after fitting the new battery. Why?
The RTC lost power during the swap and reset to its default epoch — this happens even with a hot-swap if there was any gap in the supply connection. The new cell does not automatically restore clock values. Open the programming software, navigate to the RTC settings, and enter the correct date and time manually. Confirm the clock is running and saving correctly by cycling the PLC through a mains power-off event and checking the time on restart.
The Yaskawa controller is depleting this battery faster than the previous one lasted — it's only been six months. What causes early drain on a Li-SOCl2 cell?
Li-SOCl2 self-discharge doubles roughly every 10°C above 20°C. If the control cabinet runs warm — common in enclosed panels near drive hardware — a cell rated for five-plus years at room temperature can deplete in under two years. Check the ambient temperature inside the enclosure at the battery location; anything consistently above 40°C will significantly shorten service life. Improve cabinet ventilation or relocate the controller away from heat sources to restore expected battery intervals.
