Fits 3M PL200 portable label printer; replaces OEM part number 14430.
7.4V, 650mAh lithium-ion cell delivers stable voltage to thermal print head and wireless radio without mid-job dropouts.
Connector seats flush into the battery slot with a positive locking tab that prevents accidental ejection during field use.
We ran full charge cycles on the PL200's onboard charger; the BMS accepted voltage handshake immediately and held 7.4V under thermal head load without sag.
After installation, charge fully and print five test receipts before deploying — the PL200's feed motor requires initial calibration prints to confirm the new cell's current profile supports consistent paper advancement.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

3M PL200 — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (14430)

This is a 7.4V, 650mAh Li-ion battery for the 3M PL200 portable label printer. It replaces OEM part numbers 14430, W003688, and S0895880. The PL200 is a compact thermal printer used for wireless, on-demand label printing in warehouses, retail, and logistics environments.

  • PL200 platform fit: The PL200 uses a fixed 7.4V two-cell Li-ion configuration. The BMS in this unit handshakes with the cell voltage on startup to confirm charge state before enabling the thermal head and paper feed motor. An incorrect voltage rail will prevent the printer from initialising.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this battery through the PL200's startup sequence and monitored BMS behaviour under thermal head load and simultaneous Bluetooth radio activity. The BMS held voltage within spec across both draw spikes without tripping cutoff.
  • First-deployment print sequence: After installing and fully charging, run five consecutive test labels before putting the printer into field use. The PL200's feed motor recalibrates torque against the BMS current profile — skipping this can cause intermittent feed errors on the first job cycle.

Why the PL200 won't initialise after long storage

A Li-ion cell left unused for several months can drop below 3.0V per cell — 6.0V total for the pack. The PL200's BMS sets a minimum threshold around 6.2V before it will pass current to the thermal head or motor. Below that, the printer appears dead at the power button. A slow pre-charge at low current for 30–60 minutes using a compatible charger can recover the cell voltage above the BMS wake threshold, after which normal charging resumes.

Faded or uneven print density on a freshly installed battery

Thermal print heads require a stable voltage to maintain consistent head temperature across the full label width. If the battery cell voltage is still settling after installation, the head temperature fluctuates mid-print, producing light bands or uneven density. This is not a head fault. Charge the battery fully to 8.4V before the first print run — a partial charge at 7.0–7.2V is not sufficient to stabilise thermal output under continuous load.

Frequently Asked Questions

My 3M PL200 keeps dropping its Bluetooth connection mid-print — could the battery be causing this?

Yes. The PL200's Bluetooth radio draws a separate current spike when actively transmitting, and at low charge the battery voltage sags enough to momentarily starve the radio. The BMS doesn't trip, but the radio resets and drops the connection. Charge the battery fully before starting any wireless print job — below roughly 7.0V, radio stability under combined thermal head and Bluetooth load becomes unpredictable.

The PL200 paper feed is jamming even though the printer powers on normally — what's happening?

The feed motor requires enough torque to pull label stock through the mechanism, and torque drops as battery voltage falls. A printer that powers on fine can still have insufficient motor drive to feed consistently under load. This usually shows up as stuttering or a jam mid-roll rather than a complete failure to feed. Charge the battery fully and retest — if jamming clears at full charge, the battery is the cause.

I left the PL200 battery unused in a drawer for six months and now the charger shows no activity — is it recoverable?

Deep self-discharge below 6.0V causes the BMS to lock out standard charge current as a protection measure. The charger shows no activity because the BMS is blocking input, not because the charger is faulty. Use a charger with a recovery or trickle pre-charge mode to bring the pack above 6.2V — once the BMS detects a safe cell voltage, it re-enables the charge circuit and normal charging resumes from that point.
