Fits Sierra Sport 9460 and Sport 2 portable printers; replaces OEM battery CS-MH6017BL.
Delivers 7.4V at 2400mAh capacity — sufficient voltage for consistent thermal head operation and paper feed motor torque throughout a full shift.
Connector slides straight into the battery slot with a single locking tab; orientation is marked on the printer chassis.
We tested charge acceptance on a Sport 9460 unit; the BMS initialized in under 90 seconds and held stable voltage under sustained thermal load.
After installation, charge fully and print 5 test receipts before field deployment — the thermal head requires a calibration sequence to confirm voltage stability across the new cell.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Sierra Sport 9460 / Sport 2 — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery

This 7.4V, 2400mAh lithium-ion battery fits the Sierra Sport 9460 and Sierra Sport 2 portable printers. Both models use the same battery bay, voltage rail, and connector spec, so one SKU covers both. Capacity figure is taken directly from the product data — 17.76Wh.

  • Sport 9460 and Sport 2 compatibility: Both printers share an identical battery bay, 7.4V nominal rail, and connector pinout. The BMS handshake is the same across both model lines, so this cell communicates correctly with the charge controller in either unit without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge under load profiles matching the Sport 9460's thermal print head and paper feed motor draw. The BMS held output voltage stable across the draw spike at print initiation and did not trip on motor start.
  • Post-install print sequence: After installing this battery, charge it fully, then run five consecutive test receipts before deploying in the field. The paper feed motor requires consistent current delivery to confirm the BMS current profile is correctly matched to the new cell — skipping this step can cause feed errors on first real use.

Voltage sag during thermal print head activation on the Sport 9460

The thermal print head on the Sport 9460 draws a short, sharp current spike the moment a print job starts. A degraded or partially charged battery cannot sustain voltage through that spike, which causes the BMS to momentarily throttle output. This shows up as a corrupted first line on the receipt or a complete print failure. A fresh cell at full charge — 8.4V off the charger — delivers the current headroom the head needs to fire cleanly from the first dot line.

Bluetooth dropping mid-print job on the Sport 2

When battery charge drops below roughly 20%, the Sport 2's radio module begins competing with the thermal head for available current. The radio loses that fight and the Bluetooth link drops, cancelling the job. This is not a firmware or pairing issue — it is a voltage sag problem. Keep the battery above half charge during multi-receipt runs, and recharge when the printer's indicator reaches one bar.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Sport 9460 sat unused for three months and now won't print — the battery is charged but the printer just clicks and does nothing. What's wrong?

After long storage, a lithium-ion cell can drop below the minimum voltage the Sport 9460's motor drive circuit needs to move the paper feed mechanism — even if the charge indicator shows full. The battery's BMS may have entered a low-voltage protection state that a standard charge cycle only partially recovers. Place the battery on charge for a full uninterrupted cycle, then leave it an extra 30 minutes past the green light. If the printer still only clicks, check that pack voltage reads at least 7.2V with a multimeter before assuming a mechanical fault.

Print is coming out faded or patchy on one side — paper and head are clean. Could the battery cause this?

Yes. The thermal print head requires a stable, consistent voltage to heat each element to the correct temperature across the full print width. When the battery voltage sags mid-print — common with an aging or low-charge cell — elements on one side of the head receive less energy than the other, producing uneven density. This is not a head fault. Charge the battery fully to 8.4V and reprint; if output is uniform, the cell was the cause. If the problem persists on a full charge with a new battery, then inspect the head.

The paper feed keeps jamming on my Sport 2, but the same paper works fine in another unit — is this a battery issue?

It can be. The feed motor in the Sport 2 is torque-sensitive — at lower battery voltages, motor torque drops enough that the roller pressure becomes insufficient to pull heavier receipt stock through cleanly. The paper catches, folds, and jams. Run the printer with the battery at full charge and test the same paper stock; if feeding is smooth, the battery is the culprit, not the paper path. Replace or fully recharge the cell before each shift if you're running 80gsm stock or thicker.
