Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Black & Decker CHS6000 / CHS6000 Recip-Saw — 6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery

This is a 6V, 2000mAh (12Wh) Ni-MH replacement battery for the Black & Decker CHS6000 cordless hedge trimmer and CHS6000 Recip-Saw. Both tools run on the same 6V battery platform and share connector and cell format. Swap it in when the original pack no longer holds a charge or cuts out under blade load.

  • CHS6000 and CHS6000 Recip-Saw platform: Both models share the same 6V rail, connector pitch, and BMS handshake. One battery covers both tools — no adapter or wiring change needed.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through repeated blade-load starts on the CHS6000. The BMS held through inrush current spikes on trigger pull and did not trip under sustained trimming loads at rated voltage.
  • Ni-MH cycling discipline for hedge trimmer use: Ni-MH chemistry suffers from voltage depression when repeatedly charged after short use sessions. Run the pack down through a full trimming session before recharging — partial cycles build up memory effect in Ni-MH cells faster than in lithium chemistry.

BMS cutoff on CHS6000 blade-start inrush

The CHS6000 blades draw a short inrush spike the moment the trigger fires. On a degraded or deeply discharged Ni-MH pack, internal resistance is high enough that this spike causes a voltage drop the BMS reads as an overcurrent fault. The tool cuts out immediately after trigger pull — not mid-session. A fresh, fully charged pack with low internal resistance handles the inrush without tripping. Charge the new battery to full before first use to ensure cell impedance is at its lowest before the BMS encounters that startup spike.

Tool bogs and slows mid-session under steady trimming load

If the CHS6000 starts strong but loses blade speed after a few minutes of continuous cutting, the cause is voltage sag — not a BMS trip. As the cells discharge, terminal voltage drops under sustained motor current draw, and the tool loses torque before the pack is actually empty. Check the battery contact rails on both the tool and pack for oxidation or debris, since contact resistance makes sag worse. Clean contacts with isopropyl alcohol and confirm resting pack voltage reads at least 6.6V before a session.

Frequently Asked Questions

My CHS6000 cuts out the instant I pull the trigger — new battery, fully charged. What's happening?

That's a BMS overcurrent trip caused by the blade-start inrush spike. On a Ni-MH pack that sat in storage, cell impedance can still be elevated even at full charge until the first few cycles condition the cells. Run a full discharge-recharge cycle to bring internal resistance down. If it still trips after two full cycles, check the battery contact rails for corrosion — high contact resistance amplifies the inrush voltage drop and pushes it past the BMS threshold.

The charger never goes green — it just stays on solid red with the new pack. How do I get it to accept the battery?

A Ni-MH pack below approximately 4.8V (0.8V per cell) sits outside the charger's acceptance window and triggers a fault state. This happens when the pack fully self-discharged during storage. Apply a brief trickle charge using a compatible Ni-MH charger set to 100mA for 20–30 minutes to bring cell voltage above the acceptance threshold, then return it to the standard charger. Once the charger detects voltage above its minimum acceptance point, the charge cycle will start normally.

The hedge trimmer runs fine in summer but bogs badly on cold mornings — same battery, different result. Why?

Ni-MH internal resistance rises significantly below 10°C, which increases voltage sag under motor load and makes the tool feel underpowered even on a full charge. The cells haven't failed — they're temperature-limited. Store the battery indoors at room temperature and only install it in the tool immediately before use outdoors. After 10–15 minutes of light use the cells warm from their own current flow and performance returns to normal operating levels.
