Fits Poulan Pro 967044601 40V mower; replaces OEM battery part number 501099501.
40V 3000mAh lithium-ion delivers 120Wh — enough capacity for typical residential lawn cutting on a single charge.
Connector slides straight into the mower's battery port; locking tab seats flush with a firm click.
We ran the cell on a 40V load simulator with sustained motor draw; BMS held steady without thermal cutoff.
On first mow, run the self-propel drive at half throttle for two cycles before full-speed operation — lets the BMS profile the motor inrush current before locking overcurrent thresholds.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Poulan Pro 967044601 40V Series — 40V Li-ion Replacement Battery (501099501)

This 40V 3000mAh (120Wh) Li-ion pack replaces OEM part 501099501 on the Poulan Pro 967044601 platform. It fits the 40V 24-inch mower and the 40V Dual Steel Hedge Trimmer 24-inch. Voltage and capacity match the original spec exactly.

  • 967044601 platform compatibility: Both the mower and hedge trimmer share the same 40V battery rail, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol — one pack runs both tools without any adapter or modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through motor-start inrush cycles on the mower deck and hedge trimmer drive. The BMS held the overcurrent threshold correctly on each cold start and did not trip under normal load transitions.
  • Mower deck load cycling — first two uses: On the first two cuts, avoid running the deck continuously through dense or wet grass. Start on a lighter section first. This lets the BMS profile the actual inrush current from the blade motor before it locks in overcurrent protection thresholds for your specific deck load.

BMS cutoff on 40V motor-start inrush during blade engagement

The 967044601 mower deck draws a short, sharp inrush current the moment the blade engages — often two to three times the running draw. A new or cold pack has slightly elevated internal resistance, which amplifies the voltage dip the BMS sees at that moment. If the dip hits the overcurrent threshold, the BMS trips and the deck cuts out immediately after engagement. Letting the pack reach room temperature before use and cycling it at lighter loads first brings internal resistance down and keeps the BMS from misreading startup surge as a fault.

Charger shows blinking red light on this pack after storage

Li-ion cells self-discharge during storage. If the pack has been sitting unused, individual cells can drop below the charger's acceptance voltage — typically under 2.5V per cell. The charger detects this and refuses to start a normal charge cycle, which shows as a blinking red indicator. Place the pack in the charger and leave it connected for 20–30 minutes without interrupting the connection; most chargers run a low-current recovery pulse that brings cells back above the acceptance threshold. Once the LED shifts to steady or begins a standard charge pattern, the pack is recovering — confirm full charge is reached before use.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Poulan Pro 967044601 mower cuts out the moment the blade engages — is that the battery?

Yes, this is a BMS overcurrent trip caused by inrush current at blade engagement. The blade motor pulls a spike load the instant it starts, and a cold or new pack has enough internal resistance to make that spike look like a fault to the BMS. Bring the pack to room temperature before mowing, and run two lighter cuts before tackling dense grass. That sequence lowers internal resistance and stops the false overcurrent trip.

The 40V pack sits in the charger all night and never reaches full charge — LED just stays on the same indicator.

If cells have discharged below roughly 2.5V each during storage, the charger locks out of its normal bulk-charge mode and runs a slow recovery pulse instead. This can take 30–45 minutes before the charger accepts the pack and shifts to standard charging. Do not disconnect and reconnect repeatedly — that restarts the recovery cycle each time. Leave it connected and uninterrupted until the LED changes state, then allow a full charge to complete before using the pack on the mower or hedge trimmer.

The hedge trimmer runs noticeably slower and bogs when cutting thick branches — battery is fully charged.

Voltage sag under sustained heavy load is the cause. When the trimmer motor works hard through dense material, the pack's voltage rail drops under the sustained current draw, and the tool loses drive speed. Check that the battery terminal contacts are clean and seated firmly — resistance at the contact point worsens sag significantly. If contacts are clean and sag still occurs, the pack may have degraded from repeated shallow cycling; check resting voltage after a full charge — a healthy 40V Li-ion pack should read between 41V and 42V at rest.
