Fits Stanley FMC688L, PCC680L, PCC685L, PCCK602L2 cordless drills; replaces OEM part FMC687L.
18V, 5000mAh (90Wh) Li-ion cell delivers steady torque through fastening and drilling cycles without voltage sag.
Slide connector seats fully into the tool battery slot with positive locking tab — confirm the tab clicks before operation.
We ran full charge cycles on a FMC688L drill; BMS accepted input current cleanly and held voltage under sustained load.
On first use, run the drill at half throttle for two cycles before maximum torque driving — lets the BMS profile motor inrush current before locking overcurrent thresholds.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Stanley FMC688L Series — 18V Li-ion Replacement Battery (FMC687L)

This is an 18V Li-ion replacement battery carrying 5000mAh (90Wh) of capacity. It fits the Stanley FMC688L cordless drill/driver and a range of compatible 18V Stanley tools including the PCC680L, PCC685L, and PCCK602L2. Slot it into any FMC687L-compatible port and the BMS handshakes with the charger automatically.

  • FMC688L platform fit: The FMC688L, PCC680L, PCC685L, and PCCK602L2 all share the same 18V rail, connector footprint, and BMS communication protocol. One battery pack covers the full lineup without adapter modifications.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack on the FMC688L through repeated trigger pulls under load. The BMS held the voltage rail steady during motor-start inrush and recovered without tripping overcurrent protection across all test cycles.
  • Break-in on first use: Run the drill at half load — light fastening, no high-torque driving — for the first two charge cycles. This lets the BMS sample the motor's inrush current draw and set its overcurrent thresholds accurately before you push maximum torque applications.

BMS cutoff on motor-start inrush with the FMC688L

When you pull the trigger hard from a dead stop, the motor draws a short, sharp current spike before it reaches running speed. On a new or cold pack, the BMS may read that spike as an overcurrent event and cut the output rail. This is a protection response, not a fault. Release the trigger, wait three seconds, and restart at a slower squeeze. After two or three cycles, the BMS calibrates to the motor's inrush profile and the cutoffs stop.

Charger blinking red on a new 18V pack after storage

Li-ion cells self-discharge during warehouse storage. If cell voltage drops below roughly 2.5V per cell, most Stanley 18V chargers refuse to begin a normal charge cycle and signal the fault with a red blink pattern. Place the pack on the charger and leave it for 20–30 minutes without interrupting — most Stanley chargers run a slow recovery trickle at around 100mA before stepping up to full charge. If the red blink persists past 30 minutes, check that the terminal contacts are clean and seated fully, then retry. The pack should reach the green charge indicator once cells climb above the acceptance threshold.

Frequently Asked Questions

My FMC688L cuts out the instant I pull the trigger hard — why does it keep shutting off?

That's a BMS overcurrent trip caused by motor-start inrush current. The spike at trigger pull briefly exceeds the BMS protection threshold, so it cuts the rail as a safety response. Release the trigger, wait three seconds, then restart with a slower, gentler squeeze. After two or three cycles the BMS profiles the motor draw and the cutoffs stop.

The drill feels sluggish and bogs down halfway through a screw — the battery isn't dead, so what's wrong?

That's voltage sag under load, usually caused by high contact resistance at the battery terminals. Dirt, oxidation, or a worn terminal spring reduces the current path and the voltage rail drops under torque demand. Clean the battery contacts and the tool's terminal block with a dry cloth or fine abrasive, reseat the pack firmly, and test under load. If sag continues, check that the terminal spring in the tool housing still has adequate tension.

This pack has been sitting unused for months and now it runs cold in winter — is that normal?

Yes — Li-ion internal resistance rises significantly below 5°C, which reduces available current and makes the pack feel weak even at full charge. Warm the battery to room temperature (above 10°C) before use. Once cells reach operating temperature, performance returns to normal. Store the pack indoors at around 50% charge if it will sit unused for another extended period.
