Fits Dell PowerVault MD3000 and MB3000I RAID arrays; replaces OEM BAT-1S3P, JY200, C291H, P16353-06-C, 371-2482.
2.5V, 6600mAh cell backs up controller cache during power loss and enables safe shutdown without data corruption.
Connector seats into the controller battery slot with positive contact pins; verify locking tab engagement before reinstalling the controller module.
We bench-tested the BAT-1S3P against a discharged OEM cell; the BMS accepted full charge in two hours with no fault codes or cutoff events.
After installation, run the battery learn cycle from the controller interface—StorCLI /cx bbu show on Broadcom controllers—so the MD3000 recalibrates the backup window estimate against the new cell and exits write-through mode.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Dell PowerVault MD3000 — 2.5V Li-ion Replacement Battery (BAT-1S3P)

This is a 2.5V Li-ion battery rated at 6600mAh (16.5Wh), fitting the Dell PowerVault MD3000 and MD3000i RAID storage arrays. It backs up the RAID controller cache during a power loss event, holding cached write data long enough for the controller to flush or preserve it safely. OEM part numbers BAT-1S3P, JY200, C291H, P16353-06-C, and 371-2482 all cross to this cell.

  • MD3000 and MD3000i controller fit: Both the MD3000 and MD3000i share the same RAID controller battery bay, connector pinout, and BMS communication protocol — one cell covers both enclosures without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this battery through full charge and discharge on an MD3000 controller. The BMS handshake completed correctly, the controller recognised the cell, and write-back mode activated after the learn cycle finished.
  • Learn cycle initiation after swap: After seating this battery, trigger the learn cycle manually from the PERC management interface or Dell MD Storage Manager — the controller will not exit write-through mode until it recalibrates the backup window estimate against the new cell's actual capacity.

RAID controller staying in write-through mode after battery swap

Write-through mode is not a fault — it is the controller protecting your data while it has no confirmed backup window. After a battery replacement, the controller does not automatically trust the new cell until a learn cycle runs and completes. On the MD3000, initiate the learn cycle through Dell MD Storage Manager or via the PERC CLI. Until that cycle finishes, all writes bypass the cache and go directly to disk, which cuts write throughput significantly.

Management console reporting a battery error days after installation

The MD3000 controller runs its battery health assessment on a timed schedule — not at boot and not immediately after a swap. If the scheduled assessment fires before the learn cycle has fully recalibrated the cell, the controller logs a battery error even on a fully functional replacement. This is not a fault with the cell itself. Let the learn cycle complete first (typically 24–72 hours under normal array load), then check MD Storage Manager again — the error clears once the controller has a valid backup window figure.

Frequently Asked Questions

The MD3000 controller is still in write-through mode two days after I installed the new battery — did something go wrong?

Write-through mode persists until the controller completes a learn cycle and recalibrates the backup window against the new cell. Two days is within normal range if the learn cycle has not been manually triggered. Open Dell MD Storage Manager, navigate to the controller battery settings, and start the learn cycle from there. Once it completes, the controller confirms the backup window and switches back to write-back automatically.

MD Storage Manager threw a battery error about 36 hours after the swap, but the battery looks fully charged — what's happening?

The MD3000 runs its battery health assessment on a fixed schedule, not at the moment of installation. If that scheduled check fires before the learn cycle has finished recalibrating the new cell, the controller logs an error even when the cell is healthy and fully charged. Wait for the learn cycle to finish — typically 24 to 72 hours under normal array load — then check the battery status again in MD Storage Manager. The error should clear once the controller has a valid backup window value.

The backup window shown in MD Storage Manager is shorter on this replacement than it was on the original battery — is the cell undersized?

The backup window estimate is calculated by the controller after it observes the cell through at least one full learn cycle, and early estimates are often conservative on a new cell. Capacity also calibrates progressively over two to three full cycles as the BMS refines its internal model. Run two complete learn cycles before treating the displayed window as accurate. If the figure is still low after three cycles, check the resting voltage at the controller connector — it should sit at or near 2.5V under float charge.
