Fits IBM ServerRAID 8K controllers and System X3650 servers, replaces OEM part 25R8076, 25R8075, 25R8088, BAT-00007-01-A Rev A.
3.7V 1800mAh lithium-ion cell delivers 6.66Wh capacity to sustain cache memory during power loss and prevent data corruption on connected storage drives.
Connector seats flush into the ABT-200 battery module slot with positive terminal alignment; locking tab engages on first insertion and prevents accidental dislodging.
We bench-tested this cell against the 8K controller BMS and confirmed stable voltage regulation on the backup circuit with zero early cutoff signals during simulated power-loss cycles.
After installation, run the battery learn cycle through StorCLI or ONTAP console — the controller remains in write-through mode until the cycle completes and recalibrates the backup window estimate.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

IBM ServerRAID 8K / System X3650 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (25R8076)

This 3.7V 1800mAh Li-ion cell replaces the cache backup battery on IBM ServerRAID 8K and ServeRAID 8K SAS RAID controllers, including installations in the System X3650 and ABT-200. It backs the controller's write cache during power loss, holding data in DRAM until the drives can flush. Voltage and footprint match OEM part numbers 25R8076, 25R8075, 25R8088, and BAT-00007-01-A Rev A.

  • ServerRAID 8K and 8K SAS compatibility: Both controllers share the same 3.7V single-cell backup rail and use the same physical connector and BMS handshake protocol. One cell fits both variants without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell on an 8K controller under simulated cache load. The BMS accepted the cell, reported a valid voltage, and held the controller in write-back mode once the learn cycle completed. No error flags were thrown after the recalibration pass.
  • Learn cycle initiation after swap: After fitting this cell, trigger a battery learn cycle from the controller's management interface — StorCLI: storcli /cx bbu start learn. The controller stays in write-through mode until the cycle runs, recalibrates the backup window estimate against the new cell's actual capacity, and clears the conditioning flag. Skipping this step leaves write caching disabled indefinitely.

RAID controller staying in write-through mode after battery swap

The 8K controller does not automatically switch back to write-back mode when a new cell is installed. It requires a completed learn cycle before it trusts the backup window calculation. Until that cycle runs and validates the cell's charge curve, the controller treats the battery as unqualified and keeps caching conservative. Run storcli /cx bbu show to confirm learn status, then force a cycle if it hasn't started within 30 minutes of installation.

Management console showing battery error two or three days after installation

IBM's RAID management tools schedule their full battery assessment on a timed interval, not at boot. If the assessment window falls 48–72 hours after your swap, the console will flag an error until that scheduled test runs against the new cell and passes. This is not a fault with the cell. Check the battery status log timestamp — if the error appeared exactly on the assessment interval, let the cycle complete. The flag clears once the assessment records a healthy voltage above 3.5V and a valid backup window.

Frequently Asked Questions

The controller switched back to write-through mode overnight — we just replaced the battery yesterday. What happened?

The 8K controller rechecks its backup window estimate on a scheduled interval, not just at boot. If that check ran before the learn cycle had fully completed, the controller dropped back to write-through as a precaution. Run `storcli /cx bbu start learn` to force a fresh cycle, then monitor with `storcli /cx bbu show` until the learn status shows "Active" and then "Success." Write-back mode re-enables automatically once the cycle completes and the backup window estimate is recalculated.

The backup window is showing 24 hours but our original battery showed 72 hours — is the new cell defective?

The backup window estimate is calculated dynamically from the learn cycle data, not hard-coded. A new cell starts with no discharge history, so the first estimate is conservative. Run two to three full learn cycles under normal server load and the controller will recalibrate the figure against the actual capacity of this 1800mAh cell. If the window is still significantly short after three cycles, check the cell voltage at rest with `storcli /cx bbu show` — a healthy resting voltage should read above 3.6V.

The battery self-test keeps failing in the IBM Director console even though the cell looks physically fine. What causes that?

IBM Director's battery self-test measures the cell's ability to hold a known charge level across the test window — it does not just check present voltage. If the learn cycle hasn't completed since the swap, the controller has no baseline charge curve for this cell and the self-test has nothing to validate against. Let the controller run an uninterrupted learn cycle first; the cycle takes up to 72 hours on a lightly loaded system. Re-run the self-test only after `storcli /cx bbu show` confirms the learn state has returned to "Idle" with a passed result.
