Fits IBM N6210 RAID controller; replaces OEM battery pack for cache backup function.
7.2V 5200mAh lithium-ion cell preserves NVDIMM data during power loss events.
Connector and form factor match IBM N6210 slot specifications; no adapter required.
We bench-tested the cell at 7.2V nominal with controller self-test enabled; BMS accepted handshake without fault codes.
After installation, run the battery learn cycle from your controller management interface—the N6210 stays in write-through mode until recalibration completes and validates backup window timing against this cell.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

IBM N6210 — 7.2V Li-ion Replacement Battery

This 7.2V 5200mAh Li-ion battery is a direct cache backup replacement for the IBM N6210 RAID controller. It holds controller cache data during a power failure, preventing data corruption or loss on write-pending operations. Voltage and capacity match the N6210's backup power spec at 7.2V and 37.44Wh.

  • N6210 cache backup role: The N6210 controller holds unwritten cache data in DRAM. This battery bridges power between mains failure and full system shutdown, giving the controller enough time to flush or preserve that data. Without a functional cell, the controller drops to write-through mode and cache acceleration stops.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran charge and discharge cycles, confirmed BMS communication across the connector, and verified the cell voltage held within the N6210's expected acceptance window. The BMS handshake cleared without faults on our test unit.
  • Post-installation learn cycle: After fitting this battery, initiate a learn cycle from the management interface — on ONTAP use system controller battery show to monitor status. The controller remains in write-through mode until the learn cycle completes and recalibrates the backup window estimate against the new cell capacity.

RAID controller staying in write-through mode after battery swap

Swapping the battery does not automatically trigger recalibration. The N6210 controller needs to complete a full learn cycle before it trusts the new cell and re-enables write-back caching. Until that cycle finishes, the controller reports an uncalibrated backup window and holds write-through as a safety measure. On ONTAP, track progress with system controller battery show — write-back resumes once the cycle status clears.

ONTAP showing a battery error days after installation

The N6210 does not run a battery assessment at boot — it runs on a scheduled timed interval. A battery fitted on Monday may not be assessed until the next scheduled cycle fires, which can be 24 to 72 hours later under normal load. If the learn cycle has not yet completed when that assessment runs, ONTAP logs a battery error even on a healthy new cell. Wait for the learn cycle to finish, then re-check with system controller battery show before treating the error as a hardware fault.

Frequently Asked Questions

The N6210 is still in write-through mode two days after I swapped the battery — is something wrong with the new cell?

Probably not. The controller won't re-enable write-back caching until the battery learn cycle fully completes and the backup window estimate is recalibrated against the new cell. On ONTAP, run `system controller battery show` and check the learn cycle status — if it's still in progress, write-through mode is expected behaviour. Write-back resumes automatically once the cycle clears.

My backup window is shorter on the new battery than it was on the original — why?

The backup window estimate is calculated by the controller during the learn cycle, and a brand-new cell may show a slightly conservative figure on the first cycle. The estimate recalibrates over two to three full charge and discharge cycles as the BMS builds an accurate capacity model. Run the learn cycle to completion twice more and recheck the reported backup window with `system controller battery show` or StorCLI `/cx bbu show` before drawing conclusions.

The N6210 battery self-test is failing in the management console — what does that mean?

A failing self-test on a new cell almost always means the BMS learn cycle hasn't completed yet, not that the cell itself is defective. The self-test validates the backup window against a minimum threshold, and until the learn cycle recalibrates that figure the test returns a failure. Allow 24 to 72 hours of normal system load for the cycle to finish, then re-run the self-test — if it still fails after two completed cycles, check cell resting voltage with a multimeter and confirm it sits above 6.8V.
