Fits LSI MegaRAID 9260-8i, 9260, 9261, and 9280 RAID controllers; replaces BAT1S1P, L3-25343-13B, and IBBU08 battery modules.
3.7V, 1500mAh lithium-ion cell powers the controller's write-back cache during main power loss and prevents data corruption on unexpected shutdown.
Single cylindrical cell seats vertically in the BBU08 cartridge with shrink-wrapped terminals; connector alignment is keyed and polarity-marked on the housing.
We bench-tested this cell in a LSI StorCLI environment; the BMS completed handshake without fault codes and held float charge through a 72-hour rest cycle.
After installation, run the battery learn cycle from StorCLI (/cx bbu show) or your management console — the controller stays in write-through mode until the learn cycle finishes and recalibrates the backup window estimate against the new cell.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

LSI MegaRAID 9260-8i Series — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (BAT1S1P)

This 3.7V, 1500mAh Li-ion cell replaces the cache backup battery on LSI MegaRAID 9260-8i, 9260, 9261, and 9280 RAID controller cards. It powers the controller's DRAM cache during unexpected power loss, protecting in-flight writes from being lost or corrupted. The OEM part numbers BAT1S1P, L3-25343-13B, and IBBU08 all cross-reference to this same cell.

  • MegaRAID 9260 and 9280 platform fit: These controllers share the same BBU socket, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol. The IBBU08 module mounts the cell into the same carrier used across the 9260 and 9280 families, so one cell services the entire range.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge, discharge, and BMS negotiation on a 9260-8i. The controller accepted the cell, completed communication handshake, and transitioned from write-through to write-back after the learn cycle finished.
  • Post-swap initialisation on the 9260-8i: After fitting the new cell, trigger a battery learn cycle from StorCLI using storcli /cx bbu startlearncycle. The controller holds write-through mode until the learn cycle completes and the backup window is recalibrated against the new cell's actual capacity.

RAID controller staying in write-through mode after battery swap

Swapping the cell does not automatically return the controller to write-back mode. The MegaRAID BBU module must complete a full learn cycle — charge, full discharge, and recharge — before the firmware recalculates the backup window. Until that cycle finishes, the controller treats the backup window as unknown and defaults to write-through as a safety measure. On a 9260-8i under normal server load, the learn cycle typically runs 24–72 hours. Monitor progress with storcli /cx bbu show and check that the backup window value is no longer showing zero.

Management console showing a battery error days after installation

LSI MegaRAID controllers do not run a battery assessment at boot. The BBU self-test runs on a timed interval set in firmware — often 90 days by default, but some builds run a verification pass within the first week of detecting a new cell. If the learn cycle had not completed by the time that timed check ran, the controller logs a battery error even though the cell is functional. Check the learn cycle status first with storcli /cx bbu show all. If the learn cycle shows complete and the absolute state of charge is above 80%, clear the event log and allow the next scheduled assessment to run.

Frequently Asked Questions

My MegaRAID 9260-8i is still in write-through mode two days after I swapped the battery — did I install it wrong?

The cell is almost certainly fine. Write-through mode stays active until the BBU learn cycle fully completes — charge, full discharge, and recharge against the new cell. The 9260-8i firmware will not calculate a backup window estimate until that cycle finishes, which can take 24–72 hours under normal load. Run storcli /cx bbu show and confirm the learn cycle state shows "Active" or "Complete" before drawing any other conclusions.

StorCLI is reporting a shorter backup window than the old battery had — is the new cell defective?

Not necessarily. The backup window estimate is calculated from the cell's actual measured capacity during the learn cycle, and a fresh cell's first-cycle discharge reading often reads slightly lower than its rated capacity until the chemistry stabilises. The estimate recalibrates over two to three learn cycles as the cell's true capacity becomes established. Let two full learn cycles complete before comparing the backup window value against the OEM figure — on the 9260-8i, check the recalibrated value with storcli /cx bbu show all after each cycle.

The BBU self-test is failing in the event log, but the battery was just replaced — what causes that?

A self-test failure logged shortly after a swap almost always means the learn cycle had not completed when the timed self-test ran. The MegaRAID controller schedules BBU assessments at firmware-defined intervals — it does not wait for a new cell to finish initialising. Check the learn cycle status with storcli /cx bbu show all; if it shows incomplete, allow it to finish, then manually trigger a new self-test with storcli /cx bbu startlearncycle to generate a clean post-cycle result.
